I cracked my PSA 9 shadowless Charizard.

Oh, I’m sorry if you read my response to you as defensive. You made a comment to somebody about what “I’ve been doing for a few months”. So I thought I’d just elaborate on what that actually looks like. No issues here

I honestly didn’t know I typed “pokeboob”… :stuck_out_tongue:. Got a nice ring to it tho! :stuck_out_tongue:

the only “oh shit” moment I had was when I said “oh shit, I cant believe how clean my holo is” :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

The pokeballz needed to crack that high value a card lol

Well done making it clean!

The one thing to be very careful about is the type of cloth you use. Many microfiber cloths have exactly that, “micro fiber” strands that may be abrasive and scratch the card. Cleaning/polishing cards is one of those things that reminds me of the “kids, don’t try this at home” expression unless you really know what you’re doing

. I was shaking :100: lol

. Absolutely. I actually went to an eye glass store and asked for the best cloth they had. They kind of looked at me funny. But they gave me a nice new one for the expensive glasses! No Walmart stuff! Lol

Did the card shop guy grade cards?

He sure does.

What’s BGS?

Interesting that he’s a grader, is in the business…but is clueless that an easy $15,000.00 to $20,000.00 opportunity went slipping through his fingers?

Sounds like the card shop he stopped at to get some cheap cards to test on, where the owner told him about Windex, is not the one that sold him the Charizard.

It’s a grading company like PSA but poorly run and inconsistent with a suspect future. I am still interested in their Charizards in 10 though cause it’s the only dependable grade;) That’s only my educated opinion though. Many people love them.

Ahhh…I see.

It’s one of the two big grading companies. The other being PSA. My experience has been amazing. They are incredibly easy to submit to, and offer great submission costs and turn around times. They also guarantee all of their turn around times, and often beat them. PSA no longer guarantees their times, even though you’re paying for a card to be graded in that period. They often run longer than the timeline that they advertise to have them graded by. BGS is also the leading card grading company in both Magic and Sports cards. What I like so much about them is that they offer an option for a 9.5 grade which is wonderful because it bridges the gap in between 9 and 10. A solid sub BGS 9.5 can very often be crossed to a PSA 10 if that’s what somebody wanted to do. In my experience a PSA 10 card can be either very weak or very strong, but often doesn’t fluctuate much in price. Where as you know exactly what you’re buying with a card that has the sub grades shown. (Centering, Surface, Corners, Edges). Many collectors on here will really try to put a damper on BGS as a grading company because the majority of there investment is in PSA. (My opinion). But both companies have plenty to offer. PSA 10 is beautiful too!!

This is correct! I did not buy this card at the shop. I simply went there and told him I wanted some cheap base holos to practice cleaning on. This was when he showed me the windex trick . Great card shop actually with a massive Vintage Magic and Sports inventory.

Just so new members here who read this get all the info…

Years ago it was closer but I believe Beckett’s has fallen way off.
Here’s some examples of eBay listed cards:

BGS Baseball-83,768
PSA Baseball-364,887

BGS Football-46,740
PSA Football-125,780

BGS Basketball-34,369
PSA Basketball-62,990

Pokémon BGS-813
Pokémon PSA-40,023

Plus, an even waaaay higher percentage of PSA in ALL card categories gets sold.

I have to disagree Gary, not for Magic. BGS is the gold standard there, selling a PSA graded card is much a harder than a BGS one.

Gary never said anything about Magic. Here’s the numbers for those interested:
magic the gathering psa: 815
magic the gathering bgs: 5,953
I actually really like this method of quantifying interest.
bgs yugioh: 187psa yugioh: 2,372
Here’s what I get for pokemon:
psa pokemon: 33,121
bgs pokemon: 731

BGS is definitely dominant for MTG though. Pretty much the only category though, it has pretty pitiful numbers otherwise. It’s also very interesting to see how the graded pokemon market just towers over MTG and yugioh
