How many sets does Pokémon usually release per year?

Hi!

I’ve come back to the hobby thanks to the Generations set last year. Since I’m new and I’ve arrived during all the hype of the 20th anniversary, I don’t know how many sets Pokemon usually releases per year. Could somebody with more experience tell me more or less how many sets they usually release? :blush:

I’d like to know that in order to create a budget and better decide which sets should I go after and which not. Otherwise, I’m going bankrupt hahah

There are always four main sets per year.

For Japan, they usually release a couple of extra mini-sets. For English they release a whole bunch of promotional boxes, tins and blisters.

Here is a great reference for release dates of all the sets. Also you can go into each set and see the numbered set lists which is helpful too.
