From what I gather, having variations is dependent on the category you use. However, when I use the categories on the above listing, variations aren’t an option.
Is there some trick to do this? Do you need to pay for a store to get variations on anything?
I’ll be honest though; I hate shopping when it’s a drop down variation listing. Almost 100% of the time, the item I was looking for has been long sold out but it wastes my time clicking on the link and scrolling through a bunch of stuff I do not like. That’s just my 2 cents though!
Yeah, unfortunately it didn’t help. Seems variations are tied to the catalog, and I can’t get it to come up for Pokemon cards. Plenty of people have done it though, so I’ll reach out to the sellers and see if they can shed some light on how it’s done.
EDIT: Found that if I went to the ebay.co.uk site and created a listing, the variations option was available for Pokemon cards. Seems to only be an issue when listing from the US website. I’ve got my account set up to only ship to locations in the US, so now I’m wondering what would happen if I created my listing on the UK website.
Just in case anyone googling this same question finds this thread, I wanted to summarize what I’ve discovered so far.
On the US site, the Pokemon cards categories are not eligible for listings with variations. All of the US listings I’ve found with variations are wrongly categorized in order to get them to show up. I believe it is against eBay’s policy to use categories incorrectly, but from what I’ve read they rarely crack down on this. Yu-Gi-Oh and MTG cards can be listed with variations, so hopefully Pokemon will get added in the future.
AU and UK users are able to use variations in the Pokemon category on their respective sites.
Next step is to figure out the best way to contact eBay and request variations support for Pokemon. It might be a fruitless campaign, but if anybody has advice, I’m all ears!
