The holo on this card is hard to explain but one of my fav. Especially with the way the background is coloured
My favorite holofoil type, unique to this single card:
And this Korean-exclusive holofoil type is pretty cool as well:
Here a short gif-video of both:
And bonus, it’s just a Comos Holofoil, but with a Saturn-like orb+ring:
Greetz,
Quuador
Not sure it counts as a holo pattern but I recently became aware of the lenticular sky-splitting deoxys. That thing is cooool
I saw holos as a subject and couldn’t help myself as I mostly collect holo cards!!!
Picking something fairly recent to share, the pixel holo and subtle stars give this a retro gamer vibe. Also super flashy in person!
I was actually hoping you’d comment those unique holos here since i didn’t include them in op i however added your thread of ex era reverse holos in op since it’s a great resource to have and i think it doesn’t hurt to have them in one place. Just hoping someone who has a lot of ex era would perhaps also add photos/scans of all the variants mentioned there!
Also, took some photos today and i have to say that even though the new cosmos foil is a nice pattern compared to many others it has no business to compete with og cosmos foil, for example 151 holo energies show that in all ways:
Kinda surprised that Advent of Arceus holos haven’t been showcased yet!
The slab kinda hinders the full detail, but it’s my favorite one so far!
Off topic I recognize there are a lot of reasons for changing it but Advent of Arceus was a way better set name than Platinum: Arceus
There’s so many holos I love and I’m lucky the pokemon I chose to collect has a fantastic variety.
Most recently I loved the Masterball holo they did recently. One of the more creative designs - I knew exactly what Gyarados to watch out for and chose the positioning around the eye as the highlight.
One of my top favorites - I think this was one of the few English sets that I preferred aesthetically over its Japanese counterparts. They just did Deltas so well and with the Golden Name of the Pokemon being the cherry on the top - it just feels like they also outperformed the look of the Gold Stars. The blue and gold with the soft vibrant electric colors just looks like eye candy to me.
The confetti holo pattern in Japanese just looks so good. Pictures don’t even do a quarter of it justice. For such a simple layout, it just looks so much fun, the way the pattern dances in the light. I am glad at least one Gyarados found its way in it’s ranks. This came from the Garchomp Deck.
Also credit where credit is due. Something both Base in Japanese and English accomplished unlike any holo type since - the ability to add multiple layers of depth. I just loved how it seemed like there was more happening behind the flat artwork:
Another card that pictures don’t do justice. I never understood people’s excitement about the Poncho Pikachus until I held one in hand. I broke down and finally bought a Gyarados one in fear I might never get the chance to have it - the final shove for me was the Giant Star centered perfectly on Gyarados’ headcrest! But when I held it in hand, it was mesmerizing. The quality of the sparkle is just so light and subtle, that it makes the card feel luxurious.
And then finally, the creme de la creme: No other card looks as bejeweled up as these types of promos - and this being the first makes it all the more special. What happens when you make the background of the card the same depth-loved universe holo as the traditional Japanese cards and then glam it up? Pure childhood joy at all that sparkle, color, and radiance.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk!
the glitter layer on the TWM ETB promo is nice to see. reminds me of the old jp glitter layer
This so called “ghost holo” on the 2001 Pokémon 4ever Celebi Phone card. Really tough to do it justice with my crappy screenshots of a video I took of it, but in real life, I get lost for long periods of time just playing with the different angles of the card and shifting through the various color explosions.
@azulryu well that was fireworks, posts like that make me slightly envious for species collectors who can fill their binders with stuff like that
@escheck non-tcg indeed has some unique and breathtaking holo patterns that are definitely underappreciated! I’ll also add few from my collection
Can’t spell holo pattern without topps chrome sparkle or tekno
The pattern on these merlin stickers also is beautiful, very interesting too that they printed the stickers in varying holo patterns. I’ve managed to find these two different ones in my collection
It’s not unique but the new waffle stickers rock the cracked ice pattern very well
Some surprising stuff also have nice holo patterns in them like this pog!
I tried to take photos of some others too like amada stickers but it’s nearly impossible to take photos of them that caption even fraction of the shine
Ah, good call about the stickers. There are some holo patterns on stickers that are really mesmerizing. Here are some I had already captured on my phone because they were so cool:
I know I have a Jumpluff with a cool X pattern (kind of like the radiant pokemon), but I don’t think I took a picture of that yet. Maybe if I have some time tomorrow!
Gorgeous ones! You seemingly did a lot better job with amada stickers than me!
Had to share this card i got, the holo perfectly complements the aurora borealis theme. It also has a slight holo bleed which probably highlights it even more
Here a five year old post of mine from my collection thread, but I figured it was worth quoting it in this thread.
New reverse holo pattern revealed, apparently just for this set and it’s heavily built around the shrouded fable theme, anyway nice to see different stuff like this but was kinda hoping a bit more wild stuff we’ve seen in japan lately
Would really like to see something like the Jp or cn reverses more commonly in the international releases. English reverses are consistently the worst looking imo
The poke ball reverse in 151 was a pleasant surprise but would love something like 25th anniversary or vmax climax reverses in english too
