How many cards can you think of that are holo AND glossy?
I like a lot of the old glossy promos but I noticed that most of them aren’t holo. Do you think there was a material reason why they didn’t print glossy, holo cards?
These are the two that come to mind for me. Can you think of others?
Never saw one in person but the non-holo cards are really “glossier” than any other base set language so I imagine that the holos have the same detail, few users in this group could confirm maybe…
Been trying to wrap my head around this, could you post the examples that you know of for the ex era theme deck holos, and dpt era shinies/secret rares?
I got a quick starter constructed deck medichan ex and it has a regular matte finish so I am curious which cards you have in mind. I was surprised to hear that about shinings and crystals too because I’ve never held those cards.
If all cards from Pokémon Card Trainers magazine are glossy, then you have also - with Steelix - Dark Venusaur (Vol. 10) (Unnumbered Promotional) and Scizor (Vol. 12) (P Promotional). Or am I mistaken ? Because in this video, Steelix doesn’t seem that glossy : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5IwOclea3g.
The five Masaki promos (only ★ rarity Vending Machine logo cards btw) are beautiful too, but unfortunately printed on regular card stock unlike others Vending Machine cards.
After some research, I’m starting to think that the only one glossy and holo Pokemon card from Original and Neo Era is Shining Mew from Corocoro Comics, which only use glossy card stock. What do you think ?
Next is not really relevant but about Shining Mew, Bulbapedia said :
It is Cosmos Holofoil, unlike the Shining Pokémon included in the expansion, which have an embossed foil treatment. The holofoil pattern is not limited to the card’s artwork, unlike most holofoil cards of its period. This is similar to a phenomenon called holofoil “bleed-through”, where a holofoil pattern can be seen through printed layers of the card. This is different from reverse holofoil cards, which feature only limited printing atop the foil layer.
So there :
“Standard” Holofoil,
Cosmos Holofoil, like Shining Mew and - I think - Shining Magikarp and Shining Gyarados (Awakening Legends),
Embossed Foil Treatment, for Shining Pokémon (Darkness, and to Light…) and Shining Magikarp (Unnumbered Promotional - Pokémon Card Fan Club 600 GET point prize),
Reverse Holofoil (1/2), for 6 cards of Southern Islands sheets,
Reverse Holofoil (2/2), like Charizard, Entei and Pichu from Neo Premium File 2,
“Special” Holofoil, only on Ancient Mew in its different releases.
