High-end Baseball Cards

Basically, I don’t know anything about baseball cards but I’ve been doing some research on these two. I have the opportunity to buy a big lot and these are a couple of the big ticket items included in it.

From the looks of it, the left is a Ty Cobb T206 Green Portrait and I know the right is a Honus Wagner but that’s all I know.

Any help identifying and valuating would be awesome. Obviously authenticity is a concern too so if anything sticks out as unauthentic that would be great to know too. Unfortunately this is the only picture I have.

Until the individual can be bothered to take better photos of the most valuable trading card, I wouldn’t bother.

Hm. Fair point. I’m going to take a look in person tomorrow so I’ll snap some of my own pictures then.

I honestly am not sure why they don’t have either graded with PSA. Honus Wagner with the lowest grade (PSA 1) is worth $450,000.

What price point are they asking? Feel free to pm me.

As smpratte said better pictures are definitely needed. Baseball cards are the only thing I’ve collected longer than Pokemon and while it’s not the most faked card there are plenty of fake Wagners out there. And they have no problem ruining it to make it look aged and authentic. Also the fact that these are part of a lot is a bit alarming to me, that’s like selling the Illustrator Pikachu in a lot with some base set holos, you just don’t do that.

Will he at least send you a pic of the back?

This guy picked up a ton of collectibles at an estate sale auction and is trying to unload all of them at once. It seems he doesn’t get into the details of what individual items are worth rather he just buys for X and sells for Y.

As for price point, he is asking $20k for everything - those two cards plus a bunch of other baseball cards and tons of other collectibles - star wars, Pokemon, action figures etc. Full inventory TBD once I am on-site.

Does that Honus Wagner card look like the one worth >$450k? That number makes me uneasy and leads me to believe something isn’t right. That’s just too good to be true.

I would be very, very, very careful until you can get that Honus Wagner card authenticated by a professional third-party grading service…

Yeah…if he’d take the time to take a picture of the front of those two and then make no further effort on a 20k lot then he knows they’re all fakes so don’t waste your time;)

That is The Honus Wagner card. If they do not provide any other photos, this is nothing.

Good points all around. Going to back away from this thing, it stinks to high heaven.

If he knows to take a picture of these two out of an estate sale then he must be remotely aware of their value. If he does this for a living then he’s not leaving that much money on the table.

I found the estate sale you mentioned and if I read everything correctly these 2 cards are actually not included.

Yeah he switched it up. I think he had so much interest in the cards he learned that they were more valuable and is selling them separately.
