[Help] Value of an Ungraded Skyridge Charizard Holo

TL;DR: imgur.com/a/Prms2In and imgur.com/a/n0dkLd6 - what do you think this would be worth, taking into account the fact that it’s ungraded and “risky”. Thanks!

Hi! I’m really new to the forum and also quite new to the Pokemon TCG as well, at least as an adult  I checked the “Before you create a price check” sticky, but since my card is ungraded, I think it requires an experienced collector’s eye.

This is (afaik) the most valuable card in my only 15~ card collection, and so I would really hate to sell it for too low of a price.

I am going to list off some of the details and pictures, in hopes they are enough for some veterans of the game to help me out.

Note: I have already received a few offers, 1 for roughly 450$ and one for 550$, with one of the buyers messaging me to say that they are very sure that the card won’t get a rating higher than PSA 6, but without any actual explanation. I just really don’t want to get tricked, if the card is actually in a good condition. I know that I have to give a very steep discount because it’s ungraded, but I am just making sure I don’t give a discount of more than 50%.

The item was listed on eBay for 3 days, and a roughly 850$ starting bid (675 pounds), and received many “watchers”, but no bids. So I would assume the actual price is somewhere in between the offered 550$ and 850$.

Following smprattes advice, the following listings I’ll make will probably be buy it now’s, so I would have to set a reasonable price.

Do you guys think I should take the 550$ offer, or try to get a bit more? Also, is this really only a PSA 6? While doing my research, I saw many PSA 8’s that were in a very similar condition if not arguably worse!

Here are the pictures:

Thanks for the help

Would need additional photos to determine the possible grade.

from what I see, there are some faint holo scratches & factory lines on the surface, on top of some light wear on a corner or two.
I would see this as a PSA 6-7ish.

Hey, I can take some more pictures - could you tell me what angles / lighting would be helpful?

Thanks

That’s pretty upsetting, I hadn’t even noticed. I am looking at the card now and can’t see anything like that, could it be the flash making some very minor scratches appear bigger than they are? I have to squint pretty hard to see them IRL and tilt the card, and they still don’t appear as big

Don’t worry bud, everyone on here is always super harsh and undervalue other people’s cards and then overvalue their own…just look at most the buy threads on here to prove my point. Looks like a solid PSA 8.

Hey, thanks! That gives me a bit of hope  So the last sold listing at PSA 8 went for 1000$, would you guess I can sell this for 750-800 (PSA 7 range) since it’s ungraded, within a week or two?

Ungraded is the Wild West, tough to tell that’s why people like buying graded cards. Really tough to know what you’ll get but I see no problem listing for $800 and see what offers come in. Good luck.

I will probably do that, at least now I can be sure selling for 550 so early isn’t a great decision.

Thanks for the help.

You should just grade the card

Yeah I have thought about it, however I am outside the US, and any international shipping costs an absurd amount here as it is. Not to mention, I’ve never done it before and I heard you need some special sleeves etc. to send it in. Even if it grades high, I think the price I would have to pay to get everything organised, not to mention the time wouldn’t be worth it. I will just price it as a PSA 7 for now, and see if anyone would be willing to take that risk.

I am very new to the hobby, but I agree that I could be totally underestimating how long this will take to sell without a grade. If I decide to collect cards myself in the future, I would never buy an ungraded card personally. No way. Though I guess there are people that are willing to do so, with the amount of disposable income I’ve seen some people have so far :stuck_out_tongue:

Black surface behind the card and/or more light would certainly help the photos.

That’s a pretty strong statement to make about everyone on e4. Certainly there are people who behave like this but you’ll find that anywhere where the goal is to buy things low and sell them high. Although I’ll fully agree this is common in buy threads. That is why many are unsuccessful and also why I choose not to participate in them.

Based on the pictures I think a 6 is really harsh. From what I see in I’d put it between a 7-9 but it’s really hard to assess from pictures (which is why PSA exists in the first place). If the OP is interested, there are services out there like Ludkins that will do most of the work for you in terms of grading.

@RattlePokemon ,@ccrntrade ,

Here are some extra photos. The best lighting I could find, tough to get close enough without the shadow of the phone blocking a lot of it though.

I was unable to get it to show up in the photos, but there’s also a similar, though much smaller scratching pattern between the snout and wing of Charizard.

Top right corner is a little rough, now I’d say 7-8 instead of solid 8. Def not a 6 though I don’t think.

looks a nice card!! my guess would be 7-8 grade due to the corners

Can I ask something about selling cards in general? If the photos don’t show some obscure tiny scratch (like the one I can’t get to show up on camera, but it’s smaller than the ones that do show), is it likely for the collector that buys the card to leave bad feedback? Do people do stuff like that from your guys’s experience? I don’t have much yet, I would really hate for something I didn’t notice to cause someone to do that. I still have 3 Base Charizards I want to sell in the future. I didn’t even notice the scratches on the top right, so I’m kind of worried now.

I also have “Possible PSA 8” in the title and desc saying that I would guess it to be in the 6 - 8 range.

@dalewilliamson, thanks for the help

How about the back of the card?

I would not put a “possible” grade in the title. “Near mint” would be more appropriate.

Alright, thanks. I will remove it from the title, but keep it in the description.

@ccrntrade , I do have the back in the album I’m pretty sure?

It’s picture #5 and corners from the back are the last 2 images.
