Shadowless Charizard

So I’ve gone through my old collection of cards from when I was a kid and came across shadowless Charizard from the base set (4/102). I’m wondering if anyone thinks the condition of the card is worth getting it graded and, what your guess on what the grade would be.

I know it is not in mint condition but even those with a low grade go for a few hundred and it seems like the condition is the biggest factor on how much its worth. Its also possible I may be posting in the wrong community and you may know of one that could help me out more.

P.S. yes I’m 100% confident it is not a fake. I very well remember when the game first came out buying a starter deck and 2 booster packs and my Charizard came from one of those.

I personally wouldn’t get that card graded, but it’s really up to you. I think it would earn a grade of 6 best case scenario, probably a 5 IMO. If it were NM, it would be worth it as there’s hundreds in difference between a 7-8. Between a 5 or a 6 there’s maybe $50 difference and cards in that condition earn as much raw than they do graded tbh. They usually end up in binder collections.

It still has good value, I haven’t followed the prices that much in the past month or so but I’d say you have about a $250 card. It wouldn’t hurt to get it graded/encased just to preserve it if you plan on holding onto it for several years.

Looks like a solid PSA 6 to me, unless there is significant damage I’m missing I would be shocked if it got < PSA 6.

I would grade it regardless, going to be way easier to sell.

Yeah the front especially looks quite nice. There looks to be a small indent on the back right border of the card though which might bring the grade down to 5.

I just feel like these cards earn as much raw than they do graded, but for the long term it’s probably wise to get it graded.

I missed that, that could definitely knock it down.

I think there’s still a good shot at a 6 especially with that front. I suppose it would depend on OP’s intention. If he’s going to sell right away, I would advertise raw and hope for $250 +/- $50. If long term is his game, since it’s a charizard and a shadowless at that, grading and keeping for awhile is typically the best course of action. I especially would caution selling any shadowless cards now as I think they are way undervalued, especially sub PSA 8 shadowless charizards.

I have a memories of the card still and I think I’d hold on to it if I got it PSA’ed. I’ll have to check for the potential indent tonight when I get home from work. Ebay was showing 200-250 for PSA of 6 based on the ‘sold’ listings

I definitely wouldn’t part with it for any less than $250. I got a little more than that for a similar copy I sold to a member here at the beggining of the month. Long term, it should definitely be upwards of $500… maybe $1000+.

This is what I meant by the way:

Typical #4 slot binder dent.

The front looks really good!!

I have been collecting PSA 7 shadowless/ 1st edition base set for the past couple of month and prices have been steadily increasing for zard - which I am sure is the same for lower grades as well! No harm getting this graded whether its for selling or keeping. This will look great if it remains in a binder collection as well.

Really no bad options at all, having this card is already an amazing thing

Thanks for the input everyone!

Sounds like a PSA of 6 might be possible but 5 is probably what it will turn into. It also sounds like the price on them have been steady and slowly increase over time. I’ll probably send it in and cherish my psa 5 for years to come.

Dude, PSA would grade mine the same as his?? One more reason to not get my cards graded. They don’t appreciate beauty.

I’d grade it! If I could find my childhood collection I would love to grade them for nostagic purpose. Be glad you still have yours

I mean, honestly, I would grade it and just get it done with. Send it in bulk, take the delivery delay, and the $7-8 hit. At the end of the day, it will look better in a PSA case. That’s my rationale. Life is short right? It’s still a beautiful Shadowless Charizard.

Bulk seems like the way to go. Looking into yesterday, it will cost me about 45 bucks to just get one graded, 20 for the card, 18 for their return shipping and about 7 to send it in. But if I had 6 cards to grade then its not too much more per. My problem is I don’t have a whole lot of cards I could send in. Anything I do though I’d sell. Right now I got a 1st edition holo blaine’s arcanine and a unlimited one, 1st edition holo Koga ditto, holo 1st edition Jolteon and Vaporeon from the jungle set, 1st edition hitmontop, and the rest I have unlimited, holo dark charizard, holo erika’s clefable, espeon 1st edition and a holo herocross, holo blaine and giovanni trainer cards, just to name a few. I stopped collecting them It looks like after the Rocket/Dark pokemon set.

Sorry for the long run on sentence lol

Right now, if I was to do a buik shipment for PSA, I’d at the least do the Charizard and blaine’s arcanine. It seems like the rest of them may not be worth the psa. I think the only one that could hit 9 or higher would be the hitmontop, the rest I suspect sit around the 6-7 range.

I could share pics of those if you are interested.

Solid 6, worth grading and keeping as an investment. Shadowless is going to have a huge boom when 1st gets to even more ridiculous prices.

Looks like a PSA 5-6 depending on grader. More likely a 6 IMO
