On top of that they did the marketing/advertising only for boys/male. At least it was mainly directed to that goal.
All it takes is for WOTC to do a Harry Potter themed-set with Magic the Gathering, which I suspect will happen ~

They did that already. It’s called Strixhaven: School of Mages. It didn’t have an effect on these old Harry Potter WoTC products to my knowledge.

Utterly would :3 I can see this occurring though, because HP will be the biggest show on the planet when it hits in 2026.
So I haven’t been buying pokemon since I’m really only looking out for a few cards… that are prohibitively expensive. But I’ve glanced at this thread many a time over the years, being a Harry Potter fan. And just a some days ago when I really took a deep dive, I made that post. Now that I’ve had them for a minute, I can say these are amazing as hell. They actually don’t feel the same as pokemon or magic, different smell… different feel to them… but they are still WoTC for sure. But I am compelled by the art first and foremost, and in the same vein that you have sentimentality towards another property like one does in pokemon, it is easy to catch the bug for these. But thankfully it is cheap.
So many times I have looked at boxes. Same old story… saw them years ago for x price that is insanely cheaper… only in this instance I actually didn’t buy. I figured they might be cool but let’s spend or save those funds for something else. Definitely remember even after collectibles explosion of late 2020 and 2021 that these boxes were dirty cheap. Certainly remember seeing $100 base and like $50 quidditch. Never remember seeing chamber but I understand that was rarer.
Anyway… I don’t know what the compulsion was here. I just really actually looked at the set in a way I haven’t. Funny when you do that for something you’ve known about for so long. I do it all the time with video games, books… but it’s always like… ‘why now?’. Maybe that moment now is just the right time. I’m not buying anything else lately in terms of collectibles anyway, and I think I learned that if months/year whatever goes by, maybe I get an itch. So I look on ebay recently, and as I mentioned a few days ago, I saw a complete non holo base set for $40. I figured geez man the last card I bought — a single card — was some couple hundred. Why not. Let me see if they smell and feel the same.
And they’re magnificent. Instantly knew that with gratitude (and bittersweetness?) that there are only 4 other sets. Because I went and decided I want them all. Fortunately, and according to my estimates, I can have the whole series for a few hundred more really. I say this because I don’t want the chase right now. This is so impulsive, but it’s an easy one. It came way out of left field. So here we are.
Really stellar art, excellent borders. And I’ll never forget first seeing this thread, probably 5 years ago, and seeing one of the first few posts with Halloween feast card. That always stuck with me. The first holo I got outside of base was the feast. It’s immaculate. Right up my alley. Now we are 3/5 sets.
My favorites of each so far.
I don’t know why exactly, it’s all feeling… but I tend to be partial to environment cards. So cancelled practice is one of my top favorites. Also a massive fan of the top row of pic 2, with transmogrify. Probably some of the best. along with bluebell flames. And yeah, those feast cards. Such a sucker for those. Gah… I love these.

Chambre of secrets is what I call the Skyridge of Harry Potter tcg.
The foils of that set are expensive compared with all other sets.

I just opened a sealed booster and pulled this. Did anyone come across this before? Only on the left side of this foil card is the foil barely visible. The foil on the troll and mirror is normal.
The same card is added in the background for comparison.
Not sure if this is a misprint or something?

I have just joined the Harry Potter sealed booster box club. Big fan of the movies/books. I was surprised that these are relatively unpopular!

It’s a LONG dead TCG of a franchise that is big on merch but has a fanbase that doesn’t really crossover with trading cards. On top of that it also has a very odd art style for all the artwork that I personally enjoy, but I think your casual collector wouldn’t enjoy.
Harry Potter is old enough now where Gen Alpha/late Gen Z people didn’t grow up with it being the most popular thing in the world, and it’s most certainly a cornerstone of millennial pop culture. Nevermind that the Fantastic Beasts movies sucked ass and the 5 movie franchise stopped at 3(the first one was alright).
The TCG has a resurgence in stonker popularity in 2020/2021 like everything did, but it’s gone back to being super niche now.

Ah Fantastic Beasts, the most unfantastic movies ever. A shame really. Something to note that i just thought of is that Universal Orlando is opening a new park this May and with it a new Harry Pott…sorry a “Wizarding World” land. Perhaps the tcg will have a bit of a moment haha
