It consisted of 1st edition base cards and the reason it sold for so low is the pictures were minimal with no back pics. It was a risk, but turned out to have a PSA 10 1st base electrode, chameleon, kadabra, growlithe, and probably about 15 more PSA 10 commons and uncommons and some 1st Base PSA 7-8 holos

It was one of those purchases I’d be too cautious to go in on now, but back then it was the perfect opportunity in my naivety. It was definitely one of the biggest catalysts for getting me into collecting as up to that point last summer, I mostly had only graded my childhood binders and made a few terrible lot purchases that almost turned me away from the hobby entirely.

That one good purchase gave me the confidence and capital to continue and I’m so glad I did because collecting Pokémon cards is a blast and I love this hobby and community and I’m glad to be a part of it

Best deal I’ve gotten was 3 1st ed base blisters for 1400 dollars, actually recently! As far as cards go I got I believe 8 gold stars all which graded a 9 for 1800 dollars, I didn’t sell any of them but I would have netted about 2000 profit

Spent $375 total on team rocket first ed and fossil first ed booster boxes in May 2017. Sold the fossil for $1050 and opened the rocket and got some awesome pulls

Nice question, chavycat. My top 3 is:

1. 1. Edition German Base Charizard ungraded for 75,-$ in mid 2016. I graded it a couple of months ago and it came back as a psa 9. Last psa 9s sold for about 700-750$. That’s an amazing increase for just two years of holding it.

2. Grand Trophy Card. Bought it ungraded for 115,-$ earlier this year and it came back as a psa 10. Last ones sold for about 400-685$.

3. Corocoro Mew. Bought it a couple of months ago ungraded for about 90,-$ and it came back as a psa 10 aswell which has a current value of about 375,-$.

So these three cards a lone would make a good profit if I would sell them now, but I’m not into this hobby to make a quick dollar. I just love these cards and they will definitely stay in my personal collection forever I guess. Nice to know that your passion can be such a good investment though.

The mew, is that the one with the glossy finish? I see it.on ebay now for like amonth listed at like $1400 but no one’s biting. I really want to see how much that gets sold for.

last year I was able to buy a complete german 1st Edition base set from ebay for 390 USD. All cards were described as NM-Mint, the 4 cards I graded (Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Zapdos), all got a 9

The best buy ive made isnt all too great but i purchased 31 unlimited unweighed fossil packs still with their original box for about £80 plus shipping off yahoo japan. Sold 28 of the boosters for around £420 and kept 3 for my pack collection. Ive had many cards increase in value over time far past what ive paid but i dont consider them good deals because at the time i was paying market value and if i sold them now it would still be market value.

Simple eBay buy it now OBO and I paid the full price. Mid size collection with a lot of ex era and gold star cards already graded on top of ex, BW, XY era cards and even some more gold stars ungraded.

Still 100+ cards out at PSA from that but too nothing crazy leftover as all the higher dollar ones were sold fairly quickly or added to my collection.

Can’t really think of anything I bought way below market value (the other way around twice though ), but there are definitely some amazing purchases for me for other reasons.

The best purchase is probably an impulse-buy in August of 2015: I purchased every Pikachu card that was in stock (and available for less than 20 USD per card) that I didn’t had already. In total about 50 Pikachus or so. Before that I mainly collected Yu-Gi-Oh cards, which was also the reason I was browsing TrollAndToad.com at the time. Before they arrived I already decided I would start a Pikachu collection. I looked up which all existed on Bulbapedia, and also came across some foreign websites to buy cards in various languages.

I think I had around 250 unique Pikachu cards when I came across Justinator’s collection thread and website. At the time he had around 550 Pikachus and I was really inspired! He even had loads of cards I had never even heard about in the four months I was collecting Pikachus. Quite nostalgic to now look back at my first comment on the E4 forum in Justin’s collection thread.

That impulse purchase alone is the reason I’m now here and collecting Pokémon cards again. And I must say that I still deeply enjoy it. I now have more than 1100 unique Pikachu cards and have been the top Pikachu collector of the world for about halve a year (now I’m second after Tom from Belgium). The community here on the forum is also one of the best I’ve been in, and it’s still a blast to read all the new threads and comments that people made on a daily basis.

Anyway, back on topic a bit. Three other noticeable purchases I can think of:

1. The MATCHPRINT Pikachu. Only two copies exist of this card in the world. Although the price of 1,000 USD may seem big, considering there are loads of Pikachu collectors out there and only two existing copies of this card, I’d say it’s a very reasonable price and I’m very glad I had the opportunity to buy it when I did. Still one of my favorite cards in my collection.

2. I recently (last month) won an auction for a Chinese EX Legend Maker box. Won it slightly below market value (111.11 USD - market value is about 150-175 I think), but with the additional 20 USD shipping and 35 euros import fees it was still about that market value. Still, the cards I pulled from the box were totally worth it. Not only did I pull the hardest to pull Ultra Rare (Flygon EX), but also the Gold Star Secret Rare that I wanted most from the set (Registeel). Here my recent post about the pulls in my collection thread. Still waiting for some Moltres to arrive, but will soon send the Registeel and Flygon to BGS to grade them.

3. Won an auction of about 7,000 Japanese non-holo cards on YJ 6-8 months ago. Although bulk sells like crap these days, as a collector I’m glad I won this auction. From the total 7,000 cards about 2,750 were new for my own collection. The others I have to sell one day. But, considering I only paid 100 USD for the auction (plus about 70 more for shipping, middleman fees, and import fees), this means I only paid 17000/7000 ≈ 2.4 cents per card. Since it contains at least 200 cards that are selling for 2-5 USD per card, I could easily triple the money I spend with the duplicates alone, and still keep all the other cards in my own collection. And it also contained a lot of Pokémon I didn’t had yet, so recently I bought the remaining Pokémon I was still missing (mainly Mega Pokémon and other forms) and I now have the National Index including all those forms complete.

Wow when you crossed over into Pokemon, you went hard!! That’s such an impressive pikachu collection! I’m proud of my glossy corocoro balloon pikachu. Other than that, I have a lt surges pikachu from gym challenge but thats it. Keep it up dude!

Not to many! When I did research on these Dargonite errors a while back, it was predicted that about 5000 unlimited version were printed. The 1st edition had lot less printed!
