Gen con stamped cards

I never thought anyone cared, When i got back into it 2020 i thought i had a cool collection until I saw some YouTube videos. The Charizard authority puts it to shame(as im sure hundreds of others).

I don’t believe I have anything one item that is terrible valuable. But, I do have alot, and thank god i learned about sleeves and binders as a kid.

EX Dragon wasn’t released until November 2003, several months after the GenCon 2003 event, so this is confirmed info :+1:t3: The article only details official POP events and tournaments, hence why GenCon 2003 only has a small snippet!

Just to add a bit of history to this post - This was such a complicated time for licensing and both entities were tiptoeing around one another that it led to a lot of weird distribution methods for many prizes and promos at events. I’ve done a lot of reading on forum posts at that time and promotional details I could find and I’ve only found one instance of Nintendo Era (NoA) promos intentionally being handed out at WotC-run events. This being the holo Groudon & Kyogre ex promos given away at Origins that year. If I am able to ever find confirmation of distribution at GenCon ‘03 I’ll definitely add it to the article, but generally, all Nintendo cards started being handed out only after the introduction of Pokemon Organized Play.

Edit: Apologies, looks like one more event with Groudon & Kyogre distribution! Sorry about European POP, Lia

Your collection is historical, fascinating, and has captured the attention and enthusiasm of many people here. I would love to see what you have, especially as someone with a strong interest in the “dying days” of the Pokémon League and license as a whole.

I hope you’ll continue to share.

Folks like Rusty at TCA have some of the grandest most diverse collections in the entire hobby. If we all compared ourselves to the most upper of upper crust nobody would collect at all!

My word isn’t enough?
I was there, as an adult, Having a meeting with the new “organized play management” at that same Gencon. Trying to get international organized play better for Europe.
I don’t have pictures of the those cards during that event, I only received them handed out to me by Dave Schwimmer. If you don’t know who he is, take a deep dive into how OP started in the “Nintendo” time (2003 and after).

Both holo Kyogre and Groudon EX were handed out at Gencon 2003.
Along with that mousemat you can see on the picture twitchr posted (they are under the badges)

I agree with Rainbowgym. The Kyogre promo was literally in the badge holder in the photo below when I unpacked all my stuff from childhood. I would have been 13 at the time, I specifically remember meeting (and have his business card to prove it) the head of organized play. Let’s call him Ross.

If you guys want better detailed pics of anything just ask.

I also should have several business cards of D.S., along with some others. Even have some Pikachu cards signed by DMTM (Mike)

I also got the last box with those “landscape” league badges of Mike (WOTC) at that event to support overseas OP in the end. Long and lot of stories

Anything connected to old events, promos, autographs (I see William Hung!), and any stories you have to go along with anything you have would be really cool to see.

I think this one was handed out at worlds 2004, but not sure.
One of my treasures because untill today I like what is written on it.

This is wild

I guess I’m not really sure what’s not known. Honestly I only joined this forum because it was the only source I could find that had info on some cards I had when I was cataloging them. Found the discord, found a couple of smprattes videos and put everything back away.

I somehow got an email from this post which is why I’m back here, lol.

That anti-drugs Pokemon bookmark is really cool.

Clearly any information about early 2000s Gen Cons is not really well known :upside_down_face:

I didn’t read every comment in this thread before responding to what I had been tagged in. Apologies for not doing so and thanks for the info.

As always, a pleasure engaging with you

Ash couldn’t become a Master Trainer for 25 years, due to his drug problem.

Flip a coin or something for the solved but it goes to rainbow or twitchr but i got quite a bit of info for this from yall. Thanks for everything guys.
