The SCRYE bagon was given in the magazine that was in the gencon swag bag, in pretty confident of that.

that Bagon was released in the EX Dragon set. End of 2003. Itâs very unlikely that itâs used before that time in any form. So not at Gencon 2003, but used at Gencon 2004 I would say.
I didnât receive any Bagon and I was there all days.
Just like the Charizard from that set, used in 2004 at Nationals.
Just like the Charmander from that set, used at City tournaments spring 2004.
Just like the Charmeleon fromt that set, used at States somewere May 2004 (can be a month wrong here).
I can say for sure, both Groudon en Kyogre EX HOLO were given out during Gencon 2003.

Timing seems to be confusing, but in my bag from gencon thereâs a SCRYE magazine, promoting Sandstorm. That magazine publish date is November, which doesnât exactly like up. Hereâs some photos of the stuff. Parsing through the mag, I didnât see any about the promo card. But, I have never bought a SCRYE magazine and donât know how I would have gotten than if not from Gencon 03.
Once I can find a CD drive Iâll pop this bad boy in and see if I can find anything more.

November issues most times are spreaded end of October ( so you can read during the month November.
But there are lists in the back of the magazine, showing prices of Pokemon cards. You might find some TPC promoâs there already. Perhaps the Groudon Ex and Kyogre EX.
I donât have old magazines, because in Europe those were hard to get so I needed to grab them when I was in the USA.
I see prerelease Pin and other league materials in that pile. Perhaps you joined league and got the magazine that way?

50/97 Bagon GenCon 2004 promo ( which would make the most sense, given in 2004)
Two versions with âScryeâ and âInQuestâ stamps in the bottom right of the illustration were released with Scrye and InQuest Gamer magazines respectively in January 2004. A GenCon stamped version was released at GenCon 2004 in August, and another version with no special stamp was released through various promotions during 2004.

Anything is possible. Most of the events I went to after GenCon 03 were small events (outside of worlds 04), in places like VFWâs, Moose Lodge, Boy Scout Cabins, etc. I donât think they would have given them out there, but who knows.
My local league closed down in 03, it was at a Wizards of the Coast store. There was no other league for 60+ miles
