Happy New Year! I’m in the process of completing my black star promo binder for the original Nintendo era, so 2003-2007. There are 40 unique numeric cards, but many of them have multiple versions and variations, so I want to make sure my list is complete as I attempt to fill out missing cards. Please let me know if there are any variations I am missing, and I apologize for the inconsistencies in labeling but it should be clear enough.
They are a weird variant that I have only seen posted by @funmonkey54, perhaps he wouldn’t mind posting a photo to this forum because they are more obscure. I believe he told me that they were supposedly a Scandinavian release or something along those lines.
@surfnsnow You are right, there is a distinction there. I will update the list accordingly. Thank you!
I didn’t even check the world’s stamps. I was so hyper focused on the variant scouting. Lol.
I’ve heard Swedish promo. I’ve heard UK promo. The reality is we just don’t know because both have happened before and we haven’t had a sealed in-magazine copy come up yet. I have scans of every other magazine variant in the magazine still.
The sealed aren’t super exciting. Standard cello wrap. Here’s photos of them in and out of the wrapper. Standard backs also. I’ve seen like, one and a half pairs in NM or better condition total in my entire time paying attention to them. And only four or five pairs ever total. This is the first sealed pair I’ve ever seen.
Sorry the photos aren’t museum quality. It’s dark out so hard up for good lighting options.
Totally forgot about the anniversary one, thanks! Can you provide evidence of the non holo version? Having a hard time finding that version after some preliminary searching.
The Anniversary print and non-Holo are one and the same. As far as I know there are only five different variations of this artwork; 2 in English, 2 in Japanese, 1 in Italian:
Maybe a little bit off-topic, but…
I just signed up, but I have been lurking here for a long while
For me, some stuff about the Black Star Promo’s is still unclear to me.
With stuff, I’m talking about the way some Nintendo Black star promo’s were released.
With that I mean: Were the cards just given out? Where they in a seal? Were they in a set? Was there an insert with the card?
There is a lack of pictures with some of these in their sealed/new form.
These are the cards that have an unclear release to me (Sorry, not all of them are Nintendo Black Star Promo’s):
Nintendo Black Star Promos 4 - Grovyle (Winner)
Nintendo Black Star Promos 9 - Combusken (Winner)
Nintendo Black Star Promos 11 - Marshtomp (Winner)
Nintendo Black Star Promos 14 - Latias
Nintendo Black Star Promos 15 - Latios
Nintendo Black Star Promo - Bagon (EX Dragon 50/97)
GenCon Promo - Bagon (EX Dragon 50/97)
Pre-release Promo - Gyarados (EX Dragon 32/97)
Wizards Black Star Promos 52 - Ho-Oh (Pokémon Center NY)
Wizards Black Star Promos 51 - Rapidash (Pokémon Center NY)
Wizards Black Star Promos 53 - Suicune
I know that Suicune as well as Latios/Latias came with the Pokemon DVD 4 and 5 respectively.
But were they sealed? Was there any insert that came with them?
What I also know is that the Nintendo Power version of Ho-oh and Rapidash came in a sealed pack, as seen here: ereader.no-intro.org/resources_u/88_1.jpg
But what about their Pokemon Center New York versions? How were these released? And in what form?
I hope you guys can help me
Nintendo Black Star Promos 4 - Grovyle (Winner) Cello pack of 8
Nintendo Black Star Promos 9 - Combusken (Winner) Cello pack of 8
Nintendo Black Star Promos 11 - Marshtomp (Winner) Cello pack of 8
Wizards Black Star Promos 52 - Ho-Oh (Pokémon Center NY) Brick of 900-1000
Wizards Black Star Promos 51 - Rapidash (Pokémon Center NY) Brick of 900-1000
Wait so there were multiple winners in one pack?
And what do you mean by brick? Just a stack of thousands of cards? So no flyer, seal or leaflet attached?
Or any kind of promotion that came with it?
Yeah those winner ones were packs of 8 of the same card, clear pack with nothing else in it
The ho-oh and rapidash had no leaflet or anything either, the bricks are long white cardboard type boxes that have no top and have plastic holding the cards in
