This is an extremely rare, in fact the rarest, Yugioh foil roll. Tiny squares of this foil were imprinted onto the lower right corner of most all Yugioh cards.
1st Pic is the full roll of gold foil which was used for the little edition stamp on the bottom right of all 1st and Limited Edition Cards (Silver color was used for unlimited versions). It is 25" long. The foil is as thin as you can imagine, thinner than the foil used for Pokemon booster packs.
2nd and 3rd Pic shows the edition hologram in mid tilt. Note you can see both the Eye of Anubis and the yu-gi-oh lettering concurrently.
This can be cut up to suit your idea.
Thanks in advance for your ideas and good luck with the contest.
I just got a pm asking for a little more detail with what to do with the foil.
I replied:
“What could you use that foil for in order to turn it into money. Like adding it to something related to yugioh to make that item even cooler…and more valuable.”
Or a background for any frame with high valued cards to be honest. But serious question here - would this roll be highly valued by yugioh collectors by itself, and how movable would the roll be? If not, would using it for another purpose add much value to begin with?
Exactly. My thinking is also that if it IS considered fairly collectible by yugioh collectors, and could possibly add value if utilized in some other way, I still wouldn’t personally want to cut it up based on the fact that you have an entire roll there intact. Horribly bad analogy, but the best I can think of at this time of night, but I see cutting it up similar to cutting up an entire factory sheet of Pokemon cards to try and make illegitimate square cuts (I know there is a huge moral and functional difference between the situations - but my point is in regards to preservation of the collectible - there is nothing actually wrong with using this foil for another purpose).
You could buy some Ultra-Pro Pro-Binders and create a Golden Yu-Gi-Oh! Edition.
You would have to manage to stick it properly on the front and the back and it would probably require a transparent plastic layer on top for durability.
My first idea was a background for framed cards…but that has been taken…
So how about cutting it into the same size as clear card sleeves, and then they could be put behind cards to make a cool backing. You could then sell ‘Yugioh holo sleeves’.
Or, you could use it as a background for photos of cards you list on eBay?
Well, if I wanted to create something ‘unique’ and have an impact, I would look into taking the roll to a card sleeve manufacturer and getting them to produce some custom made holographic card sleeves to sell. Say, 50 card sleeves to a pack. You wouldn’t waste material as they would all be the same shape and would seriously amazing!
You would need a backing for the foil to be layered onto, and then most likely a very thing but protective layer of plastic to stop the foil from being scratched off. Could design the whole card sleeve to just be foil, or you could put a logo/slogon etc. on it somewhere, like the Konami brand in the top-left of the image below.
UltraPro do offer custom made sleeves, but it would definitely take some research and contact with some companies for a definite ‘yes’ or ‘no’, this can happen - www.ultrapro.com/pages.php?page=faq
I don’t currently have photoshop, but imagine what the sleeves would look like!
Could even expand into deck boxes, but I think the card sleeves would be a better and safer option [for the foil].
I’ve seen some people charging crazy amounts on eBay for little sets of evolution cards in posh frames. Usually base set Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard for £100-£150 but there’s even one on there now for £50 with just the Pokekyun Chars which are worth very little. The markup on these things is huge and if you used this to back a frame with all pieces of Exodia or something along those lines I do think you would get a big demand from collectors!
Look at this one. That’s less than £5 of cards and a £10 frame at most. Imagine if it were backed by something as crazy exclusive as your holo stuff!
The easy answer would be to cut it up into smaller pieces to sell like what has been done with the base set boosters; I’m sure a lot of collectors (myself included) would love to have such a piece of memorabilia.
That being said, it does kind of concern me that these rolls exist outside the factory as the hologram is one of the primary ways to determine the authenticity of a Yu-Gi-Oh card. Being that there is a giant market for “orica” fan-made cards in the franchise, I certainly wouldn’t want this to end up in the wrong hands.
Great minds think alike:) Ofcourse weak ones do too lol
Excellent point though, it’s mainly why I wouldn’t want to sell it ‘as is’ to anybody I don’t know. This never should have made it out of the factory but believe me…it’s in good hands;)
