Here’s the first idea I’ve tried that a member here suggested.
They are samples. The finished products will have numbered Security Foil stickers on the back with the matching number sticker on a COA. I will make them limited editions somewhere from 20 to 50?
The square one is cool cause it looks like the Eye of Anubis rarity squares on each card.
We tried to use the foil to cover a matte to be used with framed Yugioh cards. As you can see, due to the adhesives, it orange pealed. 5 different adhesives all failed. This is an unsolved puzzle.
Now that i saw the square badge, which looked awesome by the way, what if you did the exact same thing but with a cufflink fastening at the back, not isure if its possible.
What was used to successfully adhere the foil to the pins? That didn’t work adhering the sheet to the matte?
My thoughts are that the matte is probably a lot more porous so when any adhesive dries it tends to fill the pores and this causes the “orange peeling”. Perhaps try a much less porous backing for the “matte” like a thin plastic or glass or something? I’m not much of a framer so I don’t know if those would be good ideas (especially the glass prob wouldn’t), but I think your issue is with the porosity. Especially seeing how well it adhered to the metal pins.
No I never made those as a kid though I did make my own POGS a few times… haha
I guess that makes sense as to why there is no issue with those. It is hard to guess as to what this material exactly feels like/behaves like. I still feel like there should be a way to adhere it without the “orange peeling” and I think a lot of that issue does come from the porosity of the matting but I could be wrong.
Honestly I think that the little badge things make a lot more sense and look way more appealing than a giant playmat. After seeing the picture of the larger sheet like that, from far away it looks like plain old aluminum foil. Definitely better used in some small trinkets that call for more attention to detail.
That being said, I’d be interested in whatever gets made out of this.
Thanks for the feedback so far.
This film/Mylar/foil etc is extremely thin. It is soooo hard to work with. One speck of dust, tiniest amount of nostril air, any movement at all just destroys whatever your doing at the time.
Try running your finger over the rarity square on a Yugioh card. You can’t feel that thing.
ketch mentioned the affect of the porous mat and using adhesive to adhere the sheet to it. He’s right. It’s impossible to do so without leaving bubbles, orange peel, or wrinkles.
I read that it is printed onto the cards, not just a sticker or anything like that? Wonder how they do that and incorporate it into the whole design of the card if this foil is just a little square… A little research and digging and such and I came across thermal transfer foil and some crafty things people do with it such as make their own greeting cards.
Interesting but not sure if it helps with anything. Using the laser printer is a neat hack, but seems iffy. I wonder if anyone has any experience with this thermal transfer foil and if it is similar at all. Seems like it may be.
I’ve decided to do a limited edition square, which looks like an oversized version of the one on the cards, in two sizes…the one pictured and a smaller one, I’ve ordered matching oval security stickers. One for the back of the button and the match for the COA. They’ll be limited to 25 large(39.95) and 50 small(19.95). The circular buttons will come in two sizes Also but not limited editions.
The above is my plan. Can anybody see a way to improve on it?
Plus, Dipzy mentions cuff links and maybe a matching tie tack. I’m gonna look into that:)
Wonder if there’s any way to use this foil for a dual promotion with Pokemon? Maybe we could crack Scotts Illustrator then stick a little rarity square on the bottom of it? A million dollar idea
Oh…I’m not pushing for sales here, only advice as a follow up on my giveaway thread so please don’t view this as a sales pitch cause it’s not:)
