Funko Pops... Do you? Pokémon Update 6/13

Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing well and survived the Flu season… :stuck_out_tongue:

So during the Holidays, a lot of my nephews asked for the freaking Funko Pops. I have noticed that just like Pokémon cards, there are common ones, the ones that run out of print quick and the ones that become more serious collectibles and harder to find.

Now, I can’t wrap my head around the fact that this company got the license for Disney/Marvel, NFL and anything you could think of…and yet Nintendo hasn’t jumped into this wagon.

So my question is:
**1. Do you collect any Funko Pops?

  1. If Pokémon/Nintendo came around and printed the first 151 Pokémons as Funko Pops… Would you go after them?

June 13…

Pikachu to be released as a Funko Pop Exclusively at Target

I feel like I’m the only person who thinks Funko Pops are just ugly. They’re neat because they do Merch for Stuff that otherwise has little to no Merch, but I feel like Pokémon is so huge and has way better looking merch.

I have a few Game of Thrones Funko pops since those were the only figures available when I bought them. Since then I haven’t picked any up since I find the designs unappealing. The solid black eyes don’t look good to me.

I don’t think I would collect Pokemon Funko Pops. There are much nicer Pokemon figures out there, such as the Tomy line, or my favorite, the Bandai kids figures.

I have 3 currently: Rocket Raccoon, Cosmo and Mantis from Guardians of the Galaxy. I think they are cool but they’re never a priority for me so I always end up forgetting about them at the store. I’m looking for the GameStop exclusive Surtur and Target exclusive Hela from Thor Ragnarok right now.

I probably wouldn’t buy any Pokemon pops unless they looked extremely cool or something. I’m not interested in them enough to invest very much money.

I have a Sylvanas Windrunner funko pop. Don’t plan on getting any others…

Holy moly

  1. I don’t have any Funko Pops - I like the collectability aspect but the figures themselves look off to me. The proportions are weird and they always have these creepy soulless eyes.

  2. I probably wouldn’t even be interested in Pokemon ones. But if they released the original 151 as Nendoroids or something… I would have no money left.

Speaking of… the Giovanni and Mewtwo one looks awesome. Saw it on the Pokemon Center website this weekend and was really tempted to buy it.

I am so annoyed by them. I have 2.

You’re not alone Cardcolle, I find them irritatingly ugly as well. Also, they’re mass produced, and I mean modern day mass produced, so no way I’m collecting those. Funko pops are so massively produced and massively hoarded that they will be filling dumpsters for years to come in my opinion.

If I was going to put my money on an ugly toy collectible, I would get some Be@rbricks as I believe they have a much higher prospect of being successfull long term. Exclusive releases, low production, and I believe I read somewhere molds are destroyed after production stops. People in Asia love them, so with the economic shift in the world, I’m pretty confident if I start collecting them today and regret it later I’ll still be able to move them without incurring significant losses.

Also, an employee for a major distributor in the UK told me distributors hold on to the rarest, more expensive ones and sell them on ebay, so rarity perception by the general public is probably skewed by this practice.

I’ve got to admit though, I bought a couple of limited edition stormtroopers that were an exclusive UK release, not because I like them, but because they were so cheap.

Nice, that looks pretty sweet, I haven’t seen that one before. I just got a Lillie/Nebby Nendoroid that I ordered a while back, that’s my only Pokemon one so far.

I like how a lot of you brought up the fact about the eyes lol… Now when I look at them I’m going to think they are Dittos who transformed into something other than Pokémons lol.

I don’t collect Funko Pops, but I do have a Crash Bandicoot one I got from my friend for Christmas as she knows I like Crash a lot. She bought it for me from the US and apparently it’s not easy to get in Europe (I don’t know how it really is as I really don’t follow the figures but that’s what she told me).

I would probably get some of my favorite Pokemon as Funko Pops if there were any and if I thought they were cool. I say that because I don’t like the look of all of the figures… Some of them look too generic for my liking, meanwhile others look really nice. It depends.

One problem hobby is enough for me! Although I do enjoy buying my girlfriend the mystery mini Harry Potter figures. Those are pretty fun to hunt for together.

Woah hey now…I don’t just transform into anything ya know!

Edit: To respond to thread:

  1. No
  2. Probably not, feel like it’s something nifty to own for like 5 seconds, then it collects dust and you want to throw it out.

My biggest gripe with funkos is that they take a lot of space, and it looks the nicest and keeps its value when it’s inside the box. This makes it a pain to not just enjoy/display, but it makes selling it an annoying feat, especially in countries with high postage costs. Damaged funko pops lose its value significantly, so selling it is a higher risk too.

I have around 100 of them and I would only get a few of the 151.

I’m not a fan but I’ll consider buying some if they start doing more Pokemon
