Ya I’d love to see anything you have to share Glenn. This thread is fascinating and your collection is legendary imho. It really captures the time period and includes more than just cards.
I think that’s great they still do the stamp rally. Do many participate? I hope I can visit Japan someday. It would be cool to go during a big pokemon event like perhaps the stamp rally. Japanese people are awesome from my limited experience with those I’ve met here in the US and those I’ve done eBay deals with. I bought a card from a Japanese eBay seller that came in perfect condition, included a bonus card he threw in for free, an origami pikachu which was awesome, and his business card with a picture of him wearing a pikachu costume. I just thought dang Japanese people are great. I’ve got to visit one day!

Well it has 6 booster packs in it

It’s been a while since I treated myself to an addition to my collection. A couple of days ago, I picked up this fun little book.
This “Pokemon Official Fan Club Book” was released in 1997 and came with two of the earliest promo cards — Mewtwo and Super Energy Retrieval.
Of course, the latter card was later made available with the Pokemon Best Collection CD. But the one that came with the book was attached (with its Mewtwo counterpart) to one of those peel-away sheets, as seen here.
And here’s the back of the peel-away sheet. (Sorry for the strange lighting, but the sheet is still sealed in the front of the book, and I didn’t want to break the binding.)

Wonderful find. The Mewtwo is another of those under-appreciated cards from the early days of Pokemon.

I don’t pick up much nowadays, but this one caught my eye.
While looking for something else in my storeroom yesterday, I discovered a large, unmarked box tucked away in a dark corner.
When I opened the box, all I could say was … WOW!
This was the first thing that caught my eye. It’s one of the most gorgeous and unusual jumbo cards I’ve ever come across, measuring 10 inches wide by 5 inches tall. The card stock is extra-thick (easily twice as thick as an 1990s-era CoroCoro jumbo) and is finished in a high-gloss, “fingerprint-resistant” laminate. I can’t quite remember how I obtained this beauty, but I believe it to be a store-display piece never intended for distribution to collectors. (The card bears the trademark of one of Japan’s leading distributors of frozen seafood.)
Because of its unusual shape and source, I’m calling it the “Frozen Fish Promo”
