You should indeed do more of these riddles. 
That’s the 2011 set. Nice! Yours is also the first release. The second release made some adjustments to the two information cards, and the outer borders are green rather than yellow.

This morning, I participated in a Pokemon “Stamp Rally” for the first time in nearly 10 years. The prize: this gorgeous Eevee holofoil. I love the artwork on this one, as it reminds me a lot of the classic illustrations of the 1990s.
The rally itself brought back fond memories of the JR events a decade ago, where we’d go from station to station collecting stamps in a quest for promo cards. Today’s rally was sponsored by 7-Eleven, and participants had to visit several stores to win the card.
Distribution of the promos was pretty strict, with each participant limited to one card. Clerks scanned the bar codes on the mylar wrapper to keep track of how many cards were given out. It was a pretty high-tech system compared to the rallies of yesteryear!
These types of events sound so fun! If I ever go to Japan I would love to participate in one of these events. Though I guess I’d be super lost since I’d have no idea where I’d be! Is this something done yearly or many different times during the year?
The rallies are usually held once a year, though in several locations now. Most of the time, they coincide with the release of a new Pokemon movie.

Man, you’re not the only one. Like someone else said, you could always go to Japan, but you’d be lost.

There are just so many beautiful japanese promos.
I have mixed feelings of envy, appreciation, disappointment, admiration and jealousy.

Here’s a giant among jumbos: a 7-inch-by-10-inch Giratina released to promote the 2008 tournament that would send Japan’s representatives to the 2009 World Championships in San Diego. The back of the promo is not the traditional card design, but rather an advertisement for the competition. Because of this, and the fact that it is plastic rather than cardboard, this “card” probably should be referred to as a shitajiki.

WOW. What an awesome thread Glenn. I love your collection and how its not just cards, but all kinds of paraphernalia from the golden years of pokemon. If you ever feel like it again, I’d love to see posts of other parts of your collection. I learned so much reading through all this and enjoyed the trip back in time into Japan’s pokemon craze. I agree with someone’s post earlier that the UPCCC is very lucky to have you. Thanks for sharing all this!
And man what I’d give to go back in time and attend the JR Stamp Rally!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything new, but I have so much stuff that I could and should share here. I’ll try to add some new things soon.
The JR Stamp Rally, by the way, continues to be held each year. For kicks, my wife and I participated this past summer. We were each able to assemble the four-card set, which required visiting dozens of stations (including the monorail station at Haneda airport, which in itself is a long and not-inexpensive journey).
