I had been lurking for a little while and now a very recent member. I had been considering starting collecting for a while and after playing the Pocket game, the desire became greater.
After finding the guide on here about ‘How to collect’ I did some research and using the guide for direction and patience, I made my mind up.
If anyone has read my introduction post in the new members section, you will know my first real exposure to Pokémon was Pokémon Go and that gave me the inspiration to start there with my collection when I discovered there was PoGo PTCG set.
The other factors were availability and cost.
I found the ETB at less than RRP via beargaming.co.uk and it arrived today!
Congratulations on your first ever purchase and I hope you had a blast opening the packs. Must feel great to experience all of this for the first time. You can refer to these threads for storage requirements and advice. I think you should be able to find what you are looking for.
When going back through, keep an eye out for reverse holos of Numel, Spinarak, and Bidoof! If there’s a little ditto next to the set number/set logo, you can peel the top layer off to reveal a ditto holo!
From a value perspective, the unpeeled versions tend to be a few dollars more, but it’s pretty fun to peel those suckers
I just used the ETB sleeves for several years when I got back into casually collecting, but I started using ultra pro penny sleeves eventually because theyre clear, thinner, and you can buy many of them in one go for cheap (I am a hoarder).
For storage, I think a binder is probably more than sufficient. I also used the etb box itself for my best cards in toploaders originally, then used the etb box for bulk. Id rather my best cards be in a binder because its way more enjoyable personally. I use felt back side loading binders. I pretty much exclusively use ultra pro, they have plastic covers, leather covers, suede covers with zippers… you can also get 12 pocket, 9 pocket or 4 pocket (how many cards per page). Id say 9 is a solid starter option.
Congrats on your first dip into collecting! Theres tons of really fun, great stuff to collect! Enjoy
Awesome to hear! Being a special set, Pokémon GO has quite a few products like collection boxes and tins to open if you wanna rip more packs. It’s also a very inexpensive set to complete just buying cards individually. Either way have fun and can’t wait to see how your collection progresses!
