The first time I spent 4 figures on a single purchase was in Feb 2015 on a small collection that included a PSA 9 base 1st zard. I paid ~$1350. I never thought I’d spend that much on Pokemon cards again. I probably have about ~100 buys > $1,000 since.

The first time I spent 5 figures on a single purchase was in October of 2017 on a large graded and mint ungraded collection that included PSA 9/10 gold stars, old and new ex’s, full arts, base and some other wotc 1st. I never thought I’d spend that much on Pokemon cards again. I have about 4 buys > $10,000 since.

I have not ever spent 6 figures on a single buy (or anywhere near it) and I doubt I ever will. I’ve also never made a sale of 5 figures for a single card sale before and I have doubted I ever will. I’ve proven myself wrong before though.

Dude that’s a sweet collection you have!

I’ve yet to break the €100 limit for a single card \o/

We all start somewhere!

Apart from the 1st Edition/Shadowless Base Venusaur, Reverse Holo LC Venusaur and the Snap! promo, there is really nothing I cannot find for less then €100 a card.

My biggest single-card purchase so far was £576 last month on an item which I was prepared to pay a different seller £800 for back in October, but that seller refused to go lower than £1,500 on. Patience is a virtue!

I think right now the only card I’d be willing to pay in excess of £1,000 for would be the English Sample Pichu with Neo Genesis artwork, but that card was very likely destroyed - I can dream, however. I doubt I’ll be spending anywhere near £576 on a single card again any time soon. Pichus are nice, but they’re not that nice.

A fair bit of the largest buys have been sold off to fund the assembly of my current collection. I don’t still own probably over 90% of what has passed through my hands.

Typically what I aim for is buying a large collection that comes with a few things that I collect to keep, and a bunch of valuable things that I don’t collect. I sell the stuff I don’t want until I break even. When I do well I can keep a bunch and maybe even profit a few dollars. Rinse and repeat many times over the past 5 years and I am where I am today with very little $ put in, just a shit ton of time that I have mostly thoroughly enjoyed.

It contained complete raw sets up to Rocket 1st ed. I graded the cards and some of the highlights: PSA 9 1st edition Charizard, PSA 10 1st edition Blastoise, PSA 9 shadowless trio, etc… I made a couple thousand off the lot after breaking even and I kept the Charizard (still have it, no plans to sell)!

Only about $350 max, but have a lot of cards in that range…maybe would be better served selling those for a higher value card

That’s amazing! If I bought that, it’d be hard to sell ha

I bought a reverse foil crystal Celebi for ~$80 last year, thought I’d lost my mind. The year before I bought a Shining Magikarp for $40 (it graded a 10) and thought I was out of control. I might break the $100 barrier later this year and then promptly check myself into rehab.

$6600 on 1st editions Charizard Blastoise and Venusaur, all graded PSA 9. It was exciting when I bought all 3 on the same weekend.

First off I just want to say thank you to everyone. When I first joined the hobby I was really down on myself that I would never be able to buy insanes amount of product like it looked like everyone here did. I got over that, but still kind of thing about it every once in a while. Not anymore. I’ve never spent over $40 on a purchase and haven’t spend more than $60 in a month. However through my own experience and through hearing your experiences, you can do a lot with a little. So thank you to all who have shared. I appreciate each and every one of you and what you do for this hobby.

My biggest purchase is my 1st edition charizard and 1st edition clefairy, I think it was around £3800 for them both.
