Bought my PSA-10 The Masked Royal for 3,500 USD. And will also buy an Upside Down WB error Pikachu for 3,250 USD at the end of this month.
The only thing I ever bought which was more expensive was my first car for 4,200 euros…
This sound so relatable in all my collectibles, luckily still on a slightly smaller scale (for now)… If I look back at 2013/2014 when I was collecting puzzles for about a year and had just returned to collecting Yu-Gi-Oh cards. At the time I bought my most expensive Yu-Gi-Oh card of a whopping 48 USD (*grasp* ) and halve a year later my most expensive puzzle of around 100 USD.
But after I started collecting Pokémon again, AND traded my simple Saturday job as a mail man for a 40-hours full-paid job as a software developer, even though my general expenses were almost the same, I would more easily spend higher amounts… My first 1k USD Pokémon card was the Pikachu MATCHPRINT which has only two existing copies, so this was definitely a good buy I’m still glad I did. But I’ve bought six more cards above 1k USD since then (including the two mentioned at the start of this post), and also bought the puzzle that was at the top of my wish list since it’s release in 2012 for 650 USD.
Never thought I would spend these kind of numbers on collectibles, but I thought the same when I was already doubting whether I should spend 30-40 USD on a card or puzzle, and now I spend those kind of amounts very easily… Sometimes a bit too easy, although I’ve slowed it down a bit now. Not that slowing down those kind of payment help when I buy a 3,250 USD card at the same time, rofl.
It might be worth trying what gottaketchumall is doing. I started doing that recently and really enjoy it. Buy collections, keep a handful of cards, sell the rest to profit or break even. You get to see many more cards in person this way so you can decide what you truly value, and you get to network with a lot of people.
I spent 325$ on blastoise unlimited psa10, 2 months ago, it was the 3rd card that I bought.
I am planning to buy a 1st edition blastoise PSA9, when I will be ready I will make a post in right section .
I actually just spent the most I’ve ever spent on a card today! I spent $90 dollars on a NM 1st edition Shining Gyarados!! I’ve dreamt of owning this card since I started collecting, so I was beyond excited to finally find the card listed at a price I felt confident in.
Biggest purchase I’ve ever made was $240 for a Skyridge pack with the Vaporeon art. I felt guilty about it for a few days, but it’s become one of my favorite purchases, and I still look at it almost every day. Sometimes you just have to go for it if your gut is telling you to
The Tropical Mega Battle Hawaii Lucky Stadium Trainer card and the original TMB photobook for 1000 USD from it’s original Dutch owner who played/attended the TMB tournament held at the Hawaiian Hilton Village Honolulu between August 26-27 2000.
180$ on three Mysterious Mountains booster packs. Initially wanted to sell two of them to make some money back, but the artwork is so nice, I just can’t part with them.
The most I ever spent in one purchase was $3250 USD, and that was on 5 sealed 1st edition fossil booster boxes, in march of 2018. Thats $650 a box, which is a killer killer deal! The dude who had them was local to me, like 35 miles away. He was lazy and unmotivated and did not want to “take the time and hassle” of listing them on ebay. They were from his sons childhood collection! That was my entire tax return + $700 emergency savings money I used to get it haha. A deal that good is an emergency, right?
I once bought a complete 1st ed base set for 6500 USD, pictures shown were all mint and when I got the set they were pretty much all played condition cards. Luckily could return it through Paypal.
Biggest purchase I’ve done thus far was 9500 USD on a collection which was worth around 35/40k
