FedEx Shipping - Possible Lost PWCC Vault Shipment

Spoke to the seller on the phone - was very cooperative.

He said they were purchased roughly a year ago… He’s going to look further into the details of this transaction. Appears as if he has roughly 25% of my collection listed.

Even if I can recoup some - I’ll be thrilled as I accepted defeat this far in.

You have a puncher’s chance of getting something back. Which is something and thats better than nothing.

I read through this. I really hope you’re able to get something back. You had so many cards. Please please keep us updated

Just read through this whole thing for the first time as well. What a nightmare and potential miraculous lead. Wonderful to hear the seller is cooperative, and I sincerely hope there is a way you can get at least part of your collection back!

I wish I hadn’t moved so recently - I literally just left Jacksonville like 2 weeks ago, if I was there I would go find the current owner and box his ears in explain the situation to him.

I sincerely hope you at least get some closure (if not some justice and some of your collection returned). I was actually talking Pokemon while visiting family last weekend, and my parents asked about you . . . they were vaguely familiar with your situation from one of the previous times we talked Pokemon. They didn’t remember the specifics, but mentioned they were “praying for that friend of yours with the cards lost in the mail.” It’s probably not much consolation, but for what it’s worth, they’re are quite a few people in the community and on this forum who have kept you in their thoughts hoping for positive outcome.

Does anyone know if Ludkins tracks the serial numbers assigned to each individuals cards once received from PSA? That may be a good piece of evidence too. I graded most of my cards through them.

Also, here is an email from the store owner:

so here is where we are at…the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office just came to my store to do a report…upon grilling me…and they had so many questions…they basically ended it with at this point no crime has been committed. it was out of their jurisdiction…and that you need to file with your local police on your end. they were not helpful at all even though I explained to them that I believed your story and I was trying to get ahead of this. they wanted to know why you didn’t file 2 years ago, do you have proof of purchase. do you have proof that you didnt sell them, they were like we can print out a list of pictures and serial numbers…why you didn’t go after fedex. they said that legally fedex could sell off any packages that labels had come off of and that got lost and found later and fedex losing a package does not mean stolen. I have had my shop for 30 years. we have been broken in to and I have even been robbed at gun point so I know where you have been. I will as a courtesy put these cards in my safe and hold them for 90 days before putting them back out for sale. give you a chance on your end to try to make your case locally. you have my contact info if a detective wants to contact me.

Sounds like legally… Might be screwed. In their eyes, no crime was committed as FedEx has the right to sell off lost & found packages… That may be true but the sheer amount of money involved w/ this particular package doesn’t seem right. Of course, I’m biased w/ this viewpoint. Any ideas? I’m going to the Sheriff’s department this afternoon but I’m afraid they won’t take me seriously.

Who sold them the cards? Trying to trace back the cards is probably your best bet.

I don’t know if this will be any help but here is the FedEx customer service discord: FedEx

They are good at answering questions. Perhaps it will clarify what the cop said about FedEx selling a lost package. I’ve never heard of that before and it sounds weird. Especially since packages are manifested by size, weight and description.

Gather as much evidence as you can, starting with psa cert numbers. Call psa and see if you can get that information. Ultimately I would be on obsessed mode with this and exhaust my resources.

I think there is no one with experience on how to act in this situation. Some more experienced members have already given all the advice I would have given. This is such a big lead and oppurtunity and I hope you can get at least part of your collection back and perhaps even more with the potential information the seller has.
Good luck and I am rooting for you!

Spoke to my local police department. Sort of the same sentiment - hard to prove any crime was committed. FedEx did issue me a refund & claim check for $100 (woohoo). Oddly enough, I never cashed the check until about 3 weeks ago but it bounced. So, technically they never paid me anything.

Still waiting on a response from a local attorney. The owner of the cards is starting to seem more & more unlikely to just hand over the cards unless forced to. Frustrating as hell because I know for a fact those are MY cards but it’s asking a lot of him.

He said the cards were purchased from a local guy who had a store in Jacksonville that went out of business. His name was George… No more detail than that. Said there’s no contract or purchase agreement between the two… Which seems odd as he claims to have paid $80k for everything.

To be fair to the store owner, it’s probably going to be hell for him to get that $80k back, so you can imagine why he wouldn’t be so willing to just hand over the cards. As far as he is concerned, he bought them legitimately.

It is a little odd how that local guy just conveniently went out of business, though. You would think he would at least recall the name of the store, and having no contract or written agreement for a purchase of that size is also strange, to say the least.

I’m sure this guy is legitimate, but the story is a little odd.

No doubt. I don’t blame the owner - can only imagine being in his shoes. Such a weird situation. Asking someone to lose almost $100k out of pure generosity is a MASSIVE ask.

You need to get an attorney. I’d also advise against sharing details about your interactions or anything else on the matter until seeking legal counsel. I understand you’re upset and that you want to vent, but you run the risk of hurting your case the more you do so.

I would stop posting in this thread until you get further along in the process, and even then only post if your attorney clears it.

USPS, UPS, and FedEX auction lost and unidentifiable packages regularly. It’s a very real possibility that your slabs were sold “legally” in the past two years.

As others have stated, it is imperative that you find legal representation. Do not inquire further on e4. Do not call FedEX. Do not stop into the police department.

Every move that you make to further this case must be under the direction of an attorney.

I am hoping that this ends favorably for you.

If he purchased the cards from someone, there was a contract. It may have been oral, but purchasing anything is contractual by its nature. It’s as simple as that. If he thinks that he’s somehow less liable (to the extent that he is liable at all, which he might not be) because of the lack of a written contract, he’s going to be in for a rude awakening lol.

I’ll also reiterate what others have said and suggest following an attorney’s lead on this. Ideally not a second-rate local attorney, either – this actually could be a difficult issue to resolve because of the time that’s elapsed and the number of the hands that the cards may have passed through at this point. Contact someone who knows what he/she is doing; it’s worthwhile to pay more to ensure this actually gets resolved correctly. Good luck!
