I know that Nausicaä is not Studio Ghibli, but I felt that it deserved a mention. I limited the list to 2010 because the poll cannot accept more than 20 options. If your favorite is not listed, please write it below.

The Tale of Princess Kaguya is definitely up there for me despite not being directed by Miyazaki. I love the unique art style and would definitely put it in my top three.

As for this list, I think a lot of people tend to keep the first Ghibli film they saw close to their hearts, and deservedly so. I can only assume Spirited Away will win this poll (though it would be cool to see otherwise!) But that’s understandable given it’s probably the film that got a majority of Ghibli fans into the franchise!

Glad to see Totoro getting some love.

Ocean Waves is my favorite. I’ve likely seen it 30 times.
Next up would definitely be Nausicaa.

It’s probably best to just make a tier list :stuck_out_tongue: since every Ghibli movie is amazing

  3. Spirited Away
  4. My Neighbor Totoro
  5. Kiki’s Delivery Service

I grew up with the Fox dub Totoro. Spirited Away is probably the overall best quality, but Totoro will always be my top choice!

I recently saw Castle in the sky and was pleasantly surprised. The title sounds a bit vague, but it was quality!

Grave of the Fireflies. Doubt I can ever bring myself to watch it again though ;_;

Spirited Away is definitely one of the highest quality. I really like Arrietty, probably because I’ve seen it a million times, and it’s such a simple light hearted concept. Whisper of the Heart is adorable, and Kiki’s Delivery Service. All the same vein I think.

It’s not on here but one of my favorites is The Wind Rises, it’s a fantastic story, very well written. I wasn’t big on Caste in the Sky for some reason, was kinda forgettable for me.

Princess Kaguya was interesting, as a buddhist I really enjoyed the themes. The art style while extremely creative was distracting at times for me.

They’re all iconic though. Ghibli is a top tier production studio.

The caste system can be pretty rough for the untouchables so I can imagine it’d be even worse in the sky… :pensive:

I’ve always wanted to watch Grave of the Fireflies but I haven’t gotten around to it. The one theater near my house shows Studio Ghibli films sporadically throughout the year. My friends always tell me its one of the saddest movies they’ve ever seen.

This makes me NOT want to see it :joy:

Grave of the Fireflies will destroy you for a few days/weeks. You need to emotionally prepare yourself before you set down that path.

Probably Princess Mononoke for me. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something in there that sets it apart from the other movies. Although, my top 5 are probably pretty close. Maybe watching them in movie theaters could change my mind a bit.

I would put Grave of the Fireflies as first, but one time a coworker and I watched it at work and cracked so many dark jokes about it, that I can’t see the movie in the same way anymore.

Grave of the fireflies is frequently described as the best movie you’ll ever see that you’ll only watch once. It’s heartbreaking.

My favourite would be Kiki’s Delivery service.
