QotD: What childhood movie do you still hold dear with a nostalgia similar to Pokemon?

Helpful Considerations: None, pop cultures has destroyed it all? An obscure yet charming local classic? You swore to never bring it up so that it never gets tainted?

Homeward Bound comes to mind off the top of my head.

Brother Bear
Star Wars
Digimon Movie (Didn’t Cause My Parents Divorce)
Spirited Away
Treasure Planet
Also Homeward Bound
Fox & The Hound
Land Before Time
Hook
Flubber
Muppet Christmas Carol

(This was a bad idea. I made it one movie because the question wasn’t “Hey Johto name every movie you saw as a kid.”)

When I was a kid I had an obsession with everything related to the Titanic. It started even before I saw the movie, but that supercharged it 1000x. I had Titanic books, documentaries, posters, video games, etc.

I memorized so many facts about the ship, and I made countless drawings of it. So much so that it annoyed my teachers. One time my 2nd grade teacher caught me drawing the ship and she literally walked over, crumpled up my drawing, and sent me to the hallway for punishment. That’s how crazy it got.

Back to the movie. When that was released on VHS I watched it again and again. I probably watched it 30 times.

So… nostalgia? I certainly feel something when I rewatch it now. But maybe it’s just a reminder of my pre-Pokemon obsession. Hard to say.

A Goofy Movie.

Scooby doo and the Samurai Sword. There are other Scooby movies I like as well such as cyber chase and zombie island, but this was one I grew up with always playing on TV.

Many impactful movies growing up, including seeing Jurassic Park in theater (as a kid, I wanted to be an archeologist). I was also captivated by the OG action film heroes like Van Damme (films that stood out to me: Universal Soldier, Street Fighter, Lionheart).

Man, it’s hard to pin it down to just one movie!

Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 were two movies I watched to death when I was young and still adore to this day.

The Land Before Time, Transformers: The Movie, Batman Returns, The Iron Giant, Groundhog Day, Mrs Doubtfire and A Goofy Movie are all movies I still hold close too.

There were the big ones like Jurassic Park and Lion King of course but thinking of one a little lesser known it would be Blank Check. The premise of the film, essentially having heaps of money, was a kids dream. I recently rewatched it and it is actually a really weird film.

EDIT: one childhood movie with a certain nostalgia:

A french supervillain movie.

Without comparing nostalgias for the sake of enforced topicality, and without getting drowned in the vastness of the question, I’m just going to list some movies that create a mid 1999 to mid 2002 timeline in my head.

Is miltank putting milk into a pond or is the pond made of miltank milk and pokemon are swimming in it? This alter makes more questions than answers???

ITT c0ll3ct0r reminds everyone why we’re best friends because literally me.

Fascinating to me that there’s the “duh” component of, yes, these movies came out and you obviously grew up in a very similar time… but for your selection to literally be that specific to my shared experience (and the movies my parents chose to take me to/buy on VHS) is wild.

It’s whatever sits best with you.

For me:

On a sunny, but only slightly warm spring afternoon, Milktank found a decent sized crater in the grass. As she approached she saw a disheartening sight.

In the crater a Pikachu and Squirtle were unconscious and shivering violently. This made Milktank’s maternal instincts kick in and hot milk began pouring out of all four udders. She tried stopping the automated flow but could not.

Taken aback by this development she decided to lay down at the crater’s edge and let the milk fill the crater.

When the crater was about half full, the immense warmth the 2 Pokemon absorbed from the milk animated them back to life. They started playing in the milk and drinking it from time to time enjoying the creamy, slightly sweet flavor.

For me this movie has always been the most memorable. I can vividly recollect the exact place, moments and feelings when watching this movie. I was 6 years old and scared shitless for a few days after the movie was done. It is still my favorite creature horror movies and even probably my favorite Hollywood movie of all time and also I think instilled my love for the horror genre.

This would be my favorite Bollywood movie and the reason is that I watched it with my best friends which has now become a very core memory in my life. This is a slapstick comedy and it still holds up after all these years. It was not well received when first released but has now gained a cult following. I remember laughing a lot and this movie is very quotable which now has spawned a lot of memes, inside jokes etc.

These 2 movies always take me back to my childhood and fun times.

Cheers!
