QotD: What childhood movie do you still hold dear with a nostalgia similar to Pokemon?

Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are deeply nostalgic for me. I watch both series each year.

This thread is a hotbed of what I’ll be doing the next few weekends!

Peter Pan is my earliest favorite that I still think about often. Mr. Smee is hilarious

This one is interesting. Ultra heavy 90’s vibe and it also stayed there, I don’t think I’ve seen a minute of it since then.

Haven’t seen anyone mention it yet, so let me throw it out there.

This was top of my mind! Some of the songs in that movie were so good (and also slightly disturbing).

I don’t think I could bring myself to watch the sequel, though, purely based on the title: ā€œThe Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars.ā€ Given how grounded the first one was, the Mars part is just completely what the hell.

I can’t believe Babe hasn’t been mentioned yet, always gives a good feeling no matter how many times you watch it. :pikahappy:

My Neighbor Totoro for me. I still have the very beat Fox Home DVD with the original Streamline Pictures English dub from that time laying around; I can’t bring myself to watch the newer Disney dub because of nostalgia, even if it isn’t bad or anything.

I did watch a couple other Studio Ghibli movies as a kid (Kiki’s Delivery Service on possibly VHS, couldn’t get through Spirited Away because of the thing with Chihiro’s parents and also No Face terrified me), but Totoro has been the one to stick with me since then.

Same. Me and my family used to watch it every year during Christmas for a period of a few years. Now it’s been a long while since I last saw it.

Some other childhood movies I’ve watched more than once, even later on as an adult:

  • The Incredibles [I was 12 when the first movie released]
  • The Mummy (by Stephen Sommers) [I was 7 when the first movie released]
  • Pirates of the Caribbean [I was 11 when the first movie released]
  • Harry Potter [I was 8 when the first movie released]
  • Lord of the Rings [I was 10 when the first movie released]
  • X-Men [I was 8 when the first movie released]

PS: I’ve added my age when the movie was released, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen most of these at ages 11-13.

It’s funny that for each of these movies I can say ā€˜when the first movie released’, since there are so many sequels and spin-offs for each of them: right now, there are 2 movies + 4 shorts for The Incredibles; 3 movies for The Mummy (by Stephen Sommers); 5 movies + 1 short for Pirates of the Caribbean; 8 movies for Harry Potter + 3 movies for Fantastic Beasts in the same universe; 3 movies + 3 movies for The Hobbit in the same universe + 16 episode series for The Rings of Power in the same universe; 13 movies + 27 episodes series for Legion + 29 episodes series for The Gifted in the same universe. (Only one I haven’t seen yet from all of those is the Legion series and The New Mutants movie. I’m currently in the process of watching everything from the Marvel universe in chronological order, so I’ll get to those eventually as well. :person_shrugging: )

And as usual, the first movies remain the best in most cases.

Lotr is probably the only thing that brings me similar kind of nostalgy and that i was somewhat obsessed with, but i have to mention George of the Jungle as it was my favourite movie when i was actually little and i watched the vhs so many times that the vhs player eventually distroyed the copy making it almost impossible to see or hear what was happening in the movie …but i anyway watched it several times after that too
