I’m sure we all have some Pokemon that we don’t really care about (or even actively dislike).
What are some cards that feature said Pokemon with an illustration you just can’t help but admire?
Here’s a few of mine. Unsurprisingly basically all of them are done by my absolute favorite illustrators.
Especially the Azumarill, Forretress, Machamp, Poliwrath, Xatu & Smeargle are absolutely breathtaking imo!
EDIT: And how could I forget Morty’s Marowak of course!!!
Apologies for cross-posting this from the Recent Purchase thread, but I was in awe of this Kirlia artwork and had to grab a copy, despite having no real interest in her!
This is such a good example! Scizor has no right to have an artwork go this hard.
I don’t really care much about Cloyster at all, but I absolutely love the artwork on this card. Also a rare case of the reverse holo being infinitely better than the holo.
Two immediately came to mind for me (coincidentally, they’re both psychic types):
I’m pretty neutral towards Lunatone, but this artwork is out of this world!
I wanted to add one modern card as well. While I like spectrier, calyrex isn’t my favorite, but this shadow rider calyrex is impressive!
This reminded me of this cloyster card from ex Firered Leafgreen, kinda unique looking since the whole artwork is fully holo, I think it was just a normal non holo rare in the english set thought
this card is what made me start paying attention any time kodama was in the bottom left
I don’t blame you, they have a lot of fantastic artworks! I love their Blaziken IR too.
Some vintage to modern:
Emerging from the smog with an attitude… A nice contrast to the usual derpy confused look Weezing has.
I just enjoy how chonky he looks guarding the steps.
Everything works so well and is on theme here imo from the card background to the background art. Always thought Night Wanderer had great art despite not as being as popular of a set.
