Came here because didn’t know where else to post this. Is this card a rare pikachu 1st ed variant or did PSA grade a fake card? Was bidding on it and noticed the font, spacing, and placement were off. Attaching some overlays with the regular one when the illustration windows are made the same size.
Looks fake to me.
Super fake. The font is so off. I am surprised something so obviously fake was graded.
The matte textures are blue core cardstock printed in 99 to meet demand. They came out very nice, i want to say they came from PBM. They printed shadowless, foils, and alot of black star promos on this stock.
There appear to be a few variations of the blue core
BS, PSA doesnt grade fake cards. Thats gotta be 100% real.
Doubt that would slip through psa if it were fake
It’s authentic PSA didn’t get it wrong.. the print variance is the real ? not the legitimacy.
I’ve never seen “Thunder Jolt” printed with that kind of spacing, +1 for the border tell as well.
There are PSA graded Base Pikachus with noticeably different “Thunder Jolt” kerning and spacing as well. Attack text spacing isn’t identical across Base print runs plate variation and ink spread (especially on matte blue-core stock) account for this. PSA already verifies font geometry, so spacing differences alone aren’t evidence of a fake. And boarder colors have a large range of colors from cream to yellow mustard.
It also has periods instead of commas in the copyright line… if it’s authentic then there’s a whole undocumented print run of base set 1st ed? Because if this card is authentic then that means the redid the resign and typesetting after this card was printed for the rest of the cards.
What’s the certificate number for the bottom card? Or, could I see the original image, un cropped?
The border tell has everything to do with dimension, nothing as much with colour.
+1 respect. That was my next query.
It isn’t a convincing fake tbh.
The font spacing is wrong, the stamp font is wrong, the borders are wrong. Other than that it’s totally fine! ![]()
It was the prototype 1st edition Pikachu before they finalized the layout. What a rare find!
The difference is ink density and strike pressure, not the font.
tis fake, why are the commas and periods mixed up?
Look at it this way, it’s just as real as the discos.
It sold on ZandG’s eBay tonight. I forget his username here, but someone could tag him or send him a message to let him know the Pikachu is fake.
