How many different cards are there over $10,000? Just wondering.
Graded or ungraded ?
A lot. If you are talking solely about Pokemon cards, the answer is ‘a lot’ as well.
I just ran a super quick query over the pokemonprice.com database and got this result:
Cards sold at $10,000+: 10
Cards sold at $5000+: 22
There’s no recent eBay price data for a lot of high end cards, like all the Japanese old back trophies, some of the new back ones and a lot of the worlds full art trophies … so those are not included in those numbers.
I will write a better query and tell you exactly what those 10 and 22 cards are later if people are interested. Maybe I’ll add it as a metric so anyone can check on the site too.
Edit: That count is unique to the card only by the way, eg. 1st ed base zard psa 9 and 10 isn’t included twice in the count for cards over 5k even though both grades are over 5k
Would be interesting to get a list, there has been an unofficial list for comics in the $100,000 and over club. It is interesting seeing the sometimes random comics that can make the list!
I think the majority of cards past 10k trade hands privately
1st edition base and shadowless Charizard are the only two set cards I can think of off the top of my head. I’d be interested to know the other 8 that @pierce picked up with the query.
I was curious after reading a different post were someone said high end cards and Scott seamed to have a different option of high end, so I made high end over $10,000. It doesn’t matter graded or ungraded. Anything over 10k seems high end to me, the rest are just expensive.
I assume they’re trophy and exclusive promos that demand that kind of money except for base Charizard.
No rarity Charizard, Blastoise might have sold that high previously. Other than that nothing comes to mind would be interesting to see a list for sure
@shizzlemetimbers , @charizandrew ,
The over $10k cards were:
- 1st Ed Base Charizard
- Shadowless Charizard
- TMB Lucky Stadium
- University Magikarp
- 1999 TMB #1 Trainer
- 1999 SSB #3 Trainer
- Ishihara GX
- Legendary Collection Charizard Holo (apparently @pokemonrevolution sold one for 10.5k in 2017
… this card is like half the price now)
Three were bad data that I cleaned up, troll best offers that were picked up that wouldn’t have been paid for (unlimited shining charizard, umbreon/espeon pop series gold stars).
So basically the full list is missing a bunch of Japanese and English trainers and full arts afaik but they don’t usually sell often or on eBay so they don’t have recorded prices.
Hey Pierce, just wanted to let you know that the buyer did not pay for that lc zard back in 2017. Ebay still kept the sold history on it.
Thanks mate
I’ll remove it
No rarity charizard has sold at $10k+ but I don’t keep track of Japanese sets (only promos/trophies) so it wasn’t in my list, blastoise hasn’t sold that high
Might as well add 1st ed typholosion #17 to set cards over 10k, with Scott’s offer.

He hasn’t payed yet so it doesn’t count.![]()
The cards that were over $5k, not including ones already on the $10k list were:
- 1st Ed Base Blastoise
- 1st Ed Base Venusaur (not anymore)
- 1st Ed Base Mewtwo (not anymore)
- 1st Ed Base Hitmonchan
- 1999 TMB Tropical Wind
- Rayquaza Gold Star
- Charizard Gold star (not anymore)
- Snap Poliwag
- Evolutions Staff Prerelease (not anymore)
- Fan Club Magikarp (not sure if that last pwcc auction was shilled/paid for)
Basically very few set cards have broken $5k and maintained the price, a few 1st ed base holos 10s (and 9 charizard), the shadowless charizard 10 and a couple of gold star 10s … the rest are all Japanese trophies/promos. Not surprising really.
The Fan Club Karp is with its new owner now so that’s a confirmed sale.
What about trophy khan ? Any recent sales of that ?
Ed sold is 10 i remember last year.
