Ever missed a most wanted item due to a technical error?

I just did. Couldn’t BIN despite having the cash because the website malfunctioned. Then someone else snatched it.
I’m pissed and my day is ruined. These are the moments where I ask myself if all of this is worth it.
Edit: Just to prevent others from facing the same misery: If you have just registered on zenmarket to buy an item on Yahoo auctions you saw, do NOT provide your personal ID for their security check. Wait until you have won the auction. You will be blocked from bidding for 24 hours after you have provided your personal ID to them, but not before.

Yes. A few months back, when I didn’t use the ebay app yet. The mobile website was was slow AF and lagged in the last few seconds of an auction for a PSA 10 GB promo Venusaur and it ended for like 90 bucks, while I was willing to bid double that. Shortly after, they went to 400-500+.
Right after that I installed the app, which I should’ve done waay earlier.

My day/week was ruined, too.

Edit: I have to ask, what was your item?

Yep. Missed a NM-M 1st edition base set hitmonchan for ~$300 because the bid didn’t go through for some reason. But I bought something better (4 1st edition base set holos) for just about the same price :stuck_out_tongue:

@muk …1st Ed PSA 10 Gold Star Rayquaza

Oof, that’s indeed a big one. I can’t seem to find it in sold listings, would you mind sharing what it went for? (Sorry for rubbing it in even deeper, but I’m a curious boi)

@muk, it wasn’t ebay, it was Yahoo auctions. Price doesn’t matter really, but they sure won’t get cheaper in the near future.

I have faith you will be able to get one day. Don’t give up! Here is a hopeful story from my experience.

A Snap Chansey appeared on Yahoo around August/September 2019, none more have sold since. At the time I tried to use a middleman site called Shopping Mall Japan / SMJ (now closed down, good riddance) that was an absolute nightmare to use and I was unable to bid in time. Similar to Zen market they wanted identity verification, full dollar deposit into their site, bank confirmation etc and took one or two full business days to reply every time. Also refused to offer insurance or take pictures. Incredibly frustrating. When I realized I was not going to be able to buy I tried to pretend it was too expensive while hoping it might end up getting no bids and I’d be able to try again if it got relisted now that I had jumped through the hoops with SMJ. LOL. Sorry. I think I only made one or two posts to my credit.

Anyway I was devastated but did know the auction winner and several months later arranged a deal with them. I was so eager I even offered an extra PSA 10 Charizard ex FRLG if they would drive to deliver in person (thankfully declined). Moral of the story is if I didn’t give up after searching ELEVEN YEARS for this card you CANNOT give up now!!! There are more Rayquaza Gold Stars out there. It is always frustrating to hear that right after you miss one but I am confident you will find one even if you have to grade yourself.

Edit – searched my inbox email and got flashbacks to how frustrating these technical issues were! Took them two days to register my scheduled deposit, only to ask confirmation then not get back another two days later, all during a seven day auction period. And I did not have the financial capacity to simply deposit $20k into every random site in the hopes a different one would work.

@qwachansey , thanks. Yeah, like hell I will give up, I’m way too invested in the Gold Stars already. But this card in particular has made it really difficult for me to stay positive. I was already close to purchasing one last September in the PWCC auction, but 2 days before the end of the auction someone in my family died so everything else became irrelevant and I missed out on it. And now this sh*t with tEchNical DiffIcuLtiEs.

There’s a sliver of hope though. Since you mentioned grading cards oneself, I might have an ace up my sleeve (not Ray but something even better), assuming it makes its way unscratched from Japan. Keep an eye out for the recent purchase thread. If the card is looking as good in person as it looked on the pictures, I’ll post it there.

Edit: Ouch, the last one from Nick was quite the middle finger, wasn’t it

Yep. A little while back I was trying to snatch up the last Mewtwo & Mew tag team gx I needed and ebay decided to be a piece of shit and not process my information at check out. After multiple failed attempts I decided to just let it go and wait again for another opportunity.

They don’t really count as most-wanted items but chasing preorders on modern sets can really stink when you make it all the way to the final checkout screen only to be told that it’s sold out once you hit “submit order”

@qwachansey , wait, I read it wrong, didn’t I. You already successfully arranged a deal to get the Snap Chansey?

Yes that is why I was sharing! To be a hopeful anecdote not just me venting lmao. It did take me about four months.

@qwachansey, wow, huge congrats! And much obliged. The “thankfully declined” threw me off a little bit. But we’re getting to the bottom of the matter; maybe I’d be a more successful collector if I sharpened my English reading comprehension skills^^

@iisanaggie, unfortunately this is quite the probable scenario in this day and age, isn’t it

@themewcollector, Oof, I can relate to that

Yup, like qwachansey, I also used one of those Japanese proxy services.

It was for the 20th anniversary Arita Pikachu/Mew promo, along with the Mewtwo 20th anniversary promo.

Site randomly glitched out and took like 2-3 minutes to process my order and I missed it (It was an auction and there was literally only one competing bidder). Because of that, it delayed me getting the entire promo set for 2 years, because the next available set on the market was like 300%-400% the price of the set. Slowly but surely I had to collect it piece by piece and finally got the entire set but it wasn’t such a “steal”.

Don’t give up though. If you give up and you really want the item, one day it may become unaffordable to get it! For example if I gave up and decided to want them now, I would probably have to put an extra 0 at the end of the number to get the cards.

One time a site shut down for maintenance while I was adding things to my cart, by the time I saw the site was running again basically everything in my cart had sold. RIP 25$ 1st ed jungle vaporeon.

Missed an item with about 30 seconds left that suddenly ended. Must have been a bad connection. Never even had a chance to snipe like I do.

Yes, technically the seller didn’t accept my offer.
I was quite disappointed.

Not for Pokemon but MTG…someone listed an UNL Lotus on cardmarket for a very good price at the time (3k for a nm+), I immediately put it in the shopping cart but kept shopping around as I was looking for some other cards as well. After maybe 20 min, the site shut completely down for 2 hours or so, and lo and behold the Lotus was gone after I could login again.
Lesson learned, just buy outright if you have things in your cart.

Missing items due to technical issues tends to happen quite a lot with ebays mobile app for me, It has a habit of telling me an item is almost ending 20 minutes after its ended lol. I now have to set manual alarms on my phone to remind me instead of using the apps Watchlist or general notifications about items i have bid on.

Don’t loose hope! There will always be another chance, Possible a better deal than before
