Thanks for the posts everybody theres definitely something going on here. Id love some more help from Scott smpratte. I watched the vid he did on 1st edition base as part of my research before getting my card. Firstly i checked lots of eevees to see if i could find other alignments like mine which i did. Then i went further and checked for vids about real vs fake 1st edition stamps which is where i came across scotts vid which did throw me but as i was dealing with team rocket plus i found others the same i took an educated chance with getting it.
Something to consider, are all your examples of the different style 1st ed stamp all located in the same country? Someone could have stamped a ton of cards themselved during the boom, and been selling them off within the same country.
We see it on ebay all the same. One personās store all has fake stamps that all have the same crappy stamp.
Mine was bought in the UK. The psa 8 towards the top is located in the US. Theres also a raw from Netherlands i put on. These are all shifted to the left examples. There are also middle left, middle, middle right and right. 5 placements ive found and theres obviously going to be variance between 5 but thats too small to look for i think. We can use left, right and middle thats probably easier even though theres crossover.
My concern with the stamp isnāt the alignment with the border. Itās the blurriness of the EDITION and the skinny straight 1 without having the top and bottom features that a real stamp has.
Trying to do one thing at a time. Alignment seemed easiest part as even with not great pics you can see alignment varies. The blurry isnt easy as some pics are way better than others even with definitely genuine examples. Im going to try to work on this part as best i can. Id love any examples of heavier ink team rocket cards that anyone may have or find. It makes some sense that if there are cards with too little ink applied the same goes for too much. Any help would be greatly appreciated
At the risk of beating a dead horse, the psyducks do look similar, but they both look off to the Right. The eevee on ebay you posted for @eeveeteam looks too far Left.
Generally, on my hundreds of 1st ed Rocket cards, the stamp is always aligned with the Left-top corner of the āIā, almost directly below the outside corner of the art frame. I DID find one [just 1] zubat that is slightly off to the Right, like those psyduckā¦
I bought it years ago (I mean about 10 years ago⦠And I KNOW I bought that zubat for my NM 1st Rocket set, and didnāt pull it. I also know I bought it from the US.) Now, the OG Zubat that I pulled is aligned like most every other 1st ed Rocket card I have (Jungle, Fossil, Neo too?), with the āIā and frame corner aligned.
It is such a SMALL amount though, perhaps itās a slight misalignment on the sheet when placing it(?). Because 10 years ago, who would have put such good quality fake stamps on common cards? Under the lens, the ink looks right, the tilt is perfect, the font checks out, the rest of the card is definitely legit⦠IDK what else to knock it forā¦
Purchased copy on Left, Confirmed from pack in 2000 on Right:
Excellent xileets to me those are a right and middle right alignment. Theres plenty of variation to be found all through ebay. Now working on the harder bit wish me luck lol. Heres another example for blurriness⦠1st Edition Eevee Team Rocket 55/82 Pokemon Card WOTC | eBay
The images that seller posted also have a lot of digital sensor artifacts around the print and hard edges, which could affect how the āboldnessā of the stamp looks. They need a higher resolution camera, or are a little shaky with too much lighting and the f stop / shutter closed down too far.
On the stamps, variation is definitely possible, but to be scientific, itās important to use extra scrutiny on any outliers.
I totally agree how hard judging with different resolution pics. My eevee does have a bottom and top to the 1 in the first edition it doesnt show well enough on my camera.
Im actually going to buy some eevees that should help if all will be taken by the same camera. TBCā¦
It would be great to see these examples in person.
I agree with Scott. The best way to tell is place the card in my binder next to my regular copy and then I can confirm.
I was actually thinking about sending it to Scott for help lol. Let me get a few other eevees id like to see them all side by side. Are you in the US too eeveeteam? Im in the UK.
I am USA located
Thanks. I wonder if theres such variance on other wotc sets.
