eBay Garbage

The only luck that I’ve had in getting some of these fake slabs removed was speaking directly to an eBay rep. And even then, it took me the better part of an hour to convince them that it was a fake.

To check my eye, and for the education of less experienced members here, what are the flags?

  • Font is wrong
  • label appears flat, with no embossed printing nor ‘PSA’ logo on label
  • embossed stamps missing on corners of slab
  • Card holo pattern is wrong
  • Card centering is not PSA 10 quality (though this could be a goof)

Anything else?

edit:

  • line spacing is too tall as well.

yep all these. font was the first give away for me. Back of the card is also off. I never see fakes get the blue/color variation correct.

No PSA text/logo in the bottom right of the slab

Wow yeah that is going to fool new collectors. Also feel bad for the real owner as PSA sometimes removes the real cert from the pop. :expressionless:

That last part really surprised me. They actually do that? That seems so counterproductive. I mean the cert is already out there, so it’s only really hurting the actual owner.

Its honestly a braindead policy. I don’t know how often they do it, but have heard it happen a few times. Makes no sense, doesn’t solve the issue, and just passes the problem onto the actual owner of the card.

That’s one of the things that routinely eludes me. Partly because digital cameras have inconsistent RBG balance.

not garbage but an ebay related question I figured I’d ask here, do any of you have a specific time/day that you think is best to schedule an auction to end?

What’s the item you are selling? In most cases, auctions bring less than buy it now.

just some lower end graded cards (~$100) that I would rather move quickly than wait for to sell at a fixed price

Relevant point by @eeveeteam . Also, if I want your items to sell in say, N. America, don’t schedule them to end from midnight EST - 7 am PST. That way, bidders in that area, or whichever it may be for you, don’t have to be up late or extra early to nab them. I prefer to try to schedule mine for the evenings.

I always find it so funny that these scammers take so much time faking the slab, faking the card, faking the QR code and bar code and then can’t get the font right which just destroys everything else they were trying to do.

I’ve found 8pm-11pm EST to yield to best results.

In seminars and experience, the best fakers (even in other forgeries like bonds, currency, phishing sites (my experience), art) have a level of attention to detail that these ammeter scammers simply can’t even comprehend. They simply don’t see it.

PWCC does Sundays at 7:00 p.m. PST. Some major eBay consigners like Z & G will do Sundays from 2:00 p.m. PST - 8:00 p.m. PST. I think the “sweet spot” is 4:00-7:00 p.m. PST (7:00 - 10:00 p.m. EST) Generally, Sundays and Saturdays are the best. Mondays are OK.

But they’re putting money toward the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation , so it must be real!

My favorite part is that the label has come out of the pocket, and all they need do it open the fake slab, re-position it, and take better picks. :upside_down_face:
