eBay buyers with overly high expectations

The moment where a potential buyer haggles you for 25 cents then doesn’t understand your terms and escalates it to insulting you through messages AND claiming you sell fake cards… All for a card less than $2… FML

Didn’t mean any disrespect in my posts, just pointing out some flaws in the ebay system. Probably 95/100 times they would rule in favor of the buyer, regardless of anything.

Oh I didn’t take it as such. Just wanted to make sure others were aware that sometimes it looks like sellers can “win” and the more prepared you are the more likely you’ll be covered.

I understand you were just trying to prove a point but I’m not sure I would call that winning brother. Sounds like a lot of work, worry, and a bunch of time just to recoup 6.00. At least, in the end, you got what I’d consider a bonus 75.00;) eBay can afford it.

I’ve often thought that if I got a principal situation like that I’d march with a sign back and forth in front of Pierre Omidyar house which is right down the street from me in my neighborhood. That would get his, and the newspapers attention. Or I’d confront him next time I saw him at our Vons supermarket. That could work out bad though cause he probably caries a gun too lol.

Ive had many instances in the past year of having to contact the seller as the cards weren’t as described.
I try to be more lenient now but when they are described as mint and come scuffed, whitening etc its very annoying.Plus…ive had smoke smelling cards twice now>.< I message sellers to ask prior.
Its funny because i was mentioning a lot i bought a month or 2 ago with an ebayer I had bought cards from.I mentioned the smoke issue and 2 weeks airing out…Then when the cards arrived I could smell it straight away. When I messaged and said do you both smoke? I got a 1 word reply.

Yes

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.Ive added it to my list of questions if not in the description :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha yeah, that’s why I threw the quotes around “win”. Totally not worth the time for $6. Better understanding my limitations as a seller and how eBay operates is worth it to me though.

I have never tried with cards, but I bought an item, the box smelled of smoke. Upon opening I thought it had been stored in burned out house, it reeked so bad. I tried an old trick, I left it in a cold environment, the smell went away.

I laid them out on the dining room table for a good week or 2, turning over every few days aha! The smell is so distinct and awful

I think cold is the key.

Back in February I purchased a lot of old sets, jesus the smell of cigarette. It was awful, I couldnt even look at them without disgust and being pis**d off.

The seller refused to achnowledge it and denied any smell was there blah blah. I had the option from paypal to get a full refund but decided to keep them since I got them from a pretty good price, Base set to neo genesis Unlimited for £400 if I recall.

The seller even threatened to come round my house if I tried to return them lol

After removing them from their 9 pocket pages and airing them out for 2 months the smell is gone, I also chucked in a few gel packets in with them, not sure if they helped but it is their purpose to soak in moister.

Here’s the threat he sent me over whatsapp, I responded with “did you really just threaten me ?”. Couldnt help but laugh and then I blocked him.

There is foul language I will bleep that

" You clearly think ya a big man watch as soon as these payments clear I’m shutting ebay down then you ain’t getting no money back out me it says no return you dumb f*ck I never called you a lier keep going on like this I will find you and I have you adress so bare that in mind I suggest you keep the cards I send you these 2 on and you shut the f*ck up before I send people round to ya house twat"

Hmmm…interesting. Never heard that one.

Ozium spray has worked for me in the past with smoke smells. I leave it out in the garage and spray ozium all around them. Then seal them in totes with dryer sheets for a while as well. I used to do a lot of flipping video game lots and it seems gamers have a much higher rate of smoking than the normal population. Luckily I don’t run into it a ton with cards, but I still have a few times and this has done the trick. Main thing is a lot of time which is a pain to have to sit on product for so long.

Terrible habit, I get especially sick every time I see folks my age ~25-35 doing it, especially when they are pushing around a stroller.

You see that. Efour proves you CAN teach an old dog new tricks:)

Or what I do is I lay the card next to (not in contact) some orange skin. Orange skin absorbs the foul odor. The next morning the cards smell fresh.

Are u serious? I feel like taking up smoking just to try this out lol.

it works. best natural way to eliminate odor

You told me all the women say you’re smokin’

I would have opened a not-as-described case just to mess with him. I bet that’ll drop the tough guy act from him.

Yeah. I get a lot of that

Oh i did, asked him for a partial refund over returning it and costing him more postage costs but he refused so i made it last all 30 days, until at the end ebay asked me if i wanted to follow through with it, to which i told them id keep it.

I wouldnt of been so angry if the cards were in worse condition as described, which they were but it was the cigarette smell that set me off.
