Big thank you to @inertgeometry for hosting the wails this week.
There are some votes which do surprise me.
I expected the Wailord ex from miracle of the desert / ex Sandstorm to place much higher than it did, same with the Kouki Saitou Wailord from Mirage Forest / ex Legend Maker. At the same time I did not reckon the Arita Wailords and especially the regular OOYAMA wailord would fare so well.
I’m am a bit sad that some of the artworks by less popular artists didn’t score higher because I think that they would have deserved a higher share of votes aswell.
On the other hand I fully epected the Wailord/Magikarp special art to take the win though
This art always reminds of disneys pinocchio, something about the shading and a giant whale. Kinda disappointed in the top 3 results though, I thought 4-7 would be higher.
The modern alt is imo not a top tier alt art or wailord art. I think people like the artists style and the maikarp more than the fact that its a wailord. Sandstorm is still the best
I think the concept for the Tag Team alt art is what sets it apart. Really glad to see the regular OOYAMA Wailord placed so high, definitely deserved in my opinion.
Regular Ooyama I think is well deserved, same with Great Encounters (number 1 contender if it was an early ex holo and not a DP non-holo.) But Harada got butchered.
The difference of voting a good art instead of voting the best art, i’m guessing all Ooyama and Arita arts would be good contenders for top spot if choosing directly the best wail art but if overall one has a mentality of choosing a good card art then few of us would disagree that this pikachu isn’t one
Having physically owned the Sandstorm Wailord before, I feel qualified to have my two cents on it and say…
…I’m surprised it was as HIGH as fourth! The art isn’t that dynamic or eye-catching imo and I think it’s one of those cards that looks good because the holo and the colours (all the blue cosmos holo does compliment the silver ex cosmos border VERY well) are particularly attractive.
That’s how I viewed my copy when I used to have it. I had a full set of Sandstorm ex foils and the Wailord was by far one of my faves purely because of the holo and colours.
Absolutely happy with the double Ooyama in 2nd/3rd
No.1 is a bit of a shocker for me though. Nobody would say it is a bad art or not unique but it seems a bit weird that a cameo art was the winner and that Pikachu technically won a Wailmer/Wailord art poll
When I ran polls and only allowed people to vote for the best and not good arts, people usually got salty, but I agree. If you can just click as many as you think are good, nearly everyone will click Pikachu pop 5
And that’s just a decission by who makes a poll, personally i think these polls by @inertgeometry have been excellent and provide very good info of people’s favourite art but occasionally it may end up with results like this, i guess with pokemon that aren’t exactly fan favourites the odds may be higher if the cameo role happens to be on more popular pokemon
