"E4's Favorite" Polls - Archive

Overview Why I began doing these polls in December 2023 as a way to see how the community here ranks cards of various Pokemon or types of cards. Sometimes we may have an idea of what is #1, but what might round out the top 10? It’s hard to guess, and we always end up surprised in the end. It is also a great avenue to learn about new cards of Pokemon we may not have seen before. In case anyone brings it up, I skipped a few cameos on purpose

• M Gengar Spirit Link (Who cares)
• Acerola EBB (too small/insignificant imo)
• Mimikyu V CSR (not counting drawings of plushies)
• Gravyard AR (same as above)
• Pikachu AR from 151 and many others (not the main focus of the artwork imo)

The cameos I did include felt like Gengar was a huge part of the artwork, either directly or with the Gastly AR, the whole evo line shares the artwork IMO

Yeah those trade evo Pokemon never stuck with me as a kid. Nobody wanted to trade so no nostalgia. Always suprised to hear gengar considered the best ghost Pokemon. I like haunter far more

Obviously the Masaki promo card has much more history but this one slaps so much harder! I might be biased towards e series card design though.

Soooo, I have concluded that Gengar has no bad cards, and that it is the best Pokemon ever. We can end the polls now, no need to debate this further. Thanks for coming everyone

A lot of the Gengar cards feel “off” in a way that’s hard to explain.

I once voiced this obvious and correct opinion and got a whole lot of flack. Haunter forever.

There are a bunch of Gengar cards that I don’t like so therefore I don’t own. I think for me it’s the way Gengar is drawn that I just have no appeal to it.

Skyridge Gengar which a lot of folks call it “plain” is my favorite card release.

Gengar VMAX took me a long time to appreciate the card so I only just recently bought it.

It’s hit and miss for me.

IMO Gengar has a lot of “good” cards and very few “great” cards. My favorites are the XY Full Art and the GMAX Special Art.

Man gengar collectors are spoiled! So many tough choices. Also the image for the jelly bean gengar doesn’t do it justice!

Gengar’s beta version is your classic early monster design. His final version also seems off to me, probably the result of haunter’s design (horns, spikes, hands). Anyways if I saw gastly at night, I’d shit my pants. If I saw gengar at night, 10/10 would hug him like a teddy bear
