This is fun. I realize that I really like Gengar when he’s illustrated in a kooky/gooby/mischievous style and not at all when the artist tries to make him intimidating or aggressively scary.
I think this stems from the original anime season 1 episode where Gengar, Gastly, and Haunter just want to play with tower visitors and goof around. More of that.
The Shibuzoh. art is the winner for me.

I love the fact that Tomokazu Komiya recreated the pupils from original fossil gengar. That and Aya Kusube masterpiece should be at the absolute top

Sorry if I’m missing something or just being an idiot but there’s a 2008 Gengar listed as ‘Skyridge’ in the poll? Doesn’t really matter but it made me question whether there was a second, secret Skyridge set I didn’t know about.
I didn’t vote for loads as Gengar is one of those I don’t ‘get’ the hype for but there are a decent amount of quality arts across all gens for once. I also like the eyes on the LvX.
I much prefer Haunter!

i try to sometimes use images that capture the texture on full arts since that is part of their appeal, but yall are right with this one. i think for this one in particular, the art concept aesthetic is the bigger factor.

Gengar is a super awesome Pokemon, but I agree that sometimes it can be a little overdone (maybe too creepy? I don’t know, haha). Overall I agree with @gengarbrigade that some cards just feel off.

For me it’s vice versa, i think the cute cards are more off and i would like to see the creepy gengar presented more often!
