E4 Secret Santa 2023 [PICTURE THREAD]

Was finally able to carve out some time to unpack the Secret Santa gift while the kiddo was sleeping.

My Secret Santa was none other than @candle, so I was expecting to receive some nice EX era cards—and the package did not disappoint!

(Incoming long post…)

Let’s start with the letter with the awesome rendition of Jumpluff I had never even thought to dream up. It’s actually such a neat idea that I think I’ll try to bring it to life sometime through crochet!

Included with the letter were a few bubble mailers containing packs of cards, and the goodies inside were absolutely awesome. These thoughtful gifts brought me one step closer to both of my major collection goals: my Hoppip/Skiploom/Jumpluff species collection and my reverse holo Expedition set. I loved every card and am excited to share them all with everyone in this thread!

First up are the jumpy lads:

I still need both the reverse Aquapolis Jumpluff and the 1st edition Neo Revelation Jumpluff for my species collection, so both of them are going straight into their respective empty slots in the binder. But that’s not all… A PSA 10 Japanese Neo Genesis Jumpluff—the perfect specimen of the Jumpluff rookie card :sunglasses:—was also included! Definitely spent a few moments getting lost in that shiny holo. I don’t buy slabs myself, but I am also not immune to the siren’s song of a PSA 10 Jumpluff.

Next are the beautiful reverse holo Expedition cards:

Coincidentally, both my major collection goals line up with some of the best winter holiday cards out there: the Snowman Neo Rev Jumpluff and the Christmas-time Expedition Flaaffy. And candle was generous enough to include both of these cards in the gift, really driving home the Secret Santa theme! I am missing the Flaaffy and Graveler for my Expedition set, and the Goldeen is in better condition than the one I currently have, so all of them will be migrating to the binder. The Hoppip I already have for my Expedition set, but I actually needed a double for my species collection, so he’ll be separated from his brethren and will find a snug place in the other binder :slightly_smiling_face:.

Lastly, I mentioned some EX era cards, and here they are:

These cards pertain to other side collection interests of mine: species collections for Chinchou/Lanturn and Wooper/Quagsire, EX era reverse holos (which are amazing), and a Sachiko Adachi artist collection. These all hit the perfect notes, and the Quagsire even intersects of all three of these interests! I tried to take pictures to show off the neat holo patterns of the different EX era reverses so they can be appreciated in their full glory. I’ll also keep the EX Unseen Forces reverse Chinchou in a safe place in case I ever build up enough cards to send out for grading.

I also greatly appreciate the signed card (on an awesome reverse holo Chinchou, no less). It’ll go straight into the E4 signed card binder page (of which there is only one other card right now :joy:). I forgot to mention I would appreciate a signed card, and when I remembered, I felt like too much time had passed since the assignments had been sent out, so I just left it hanging. So I’m extra stoked a signature card was included with the gift!

Again, thank you @candle for sending over an on-point Secret Santa gift. Everything is much appreciated, and they’ll all find a permanent home in my collection.

Hope everyone’s holidays are going well!

Last week I got prompted with a DHL e-mail of an arriving package. I knew something was coming because I also been doing Amazon orders, but this one came all the way from the North Pole (okay, Norway… but that isn’t far from the North Pole).

Once arrived, I was a bit worried because of all the DHL Repacked tape on the box and thought something was wrong, or worse; damaged. So I messaged FourthStar to verify everything before making photos for the forums and posting.

Since no name was mentioned of my Secret Santa anywhere in the package I had no idea who send it to me. Thanks to my message to FourthStar I figured out it was @kemost !

Yes, I hid my name on the drawing because I supplied my legal name for custom forms and rather not have that out in the wild

The box is just amazing. I had it in my cart on various shops for a while now not wanting to press order because of possibilities. The singles, just wow. At first I thought what is this Ivysaur but after closer inspection it’s a 1999-2000 print variant I was still missing. Same for the reverse holos and of course the wonderful Collector reprints of Bulbasaur and Ivysaur.

As is tradition in my family I am allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve. Now, my family has mostly abandoned it, but it makes me feel like a kid again when I open up my E4 Secret Santa gift today. I know it’s Christmas now, but I needed some time to take in all the feelings I had when opening up this year’s gift.

It was a long day of cooking and playing games with family on Christmas Eve so I thought I’d relax by opening up my E4 SS gift. It was not relaxing. I was losing my mind at the effort and thoughtfulness of this gift at each step of the way. I am still losing it. Thank you so much @shoops for this amazing gift. It will be cherished forever.

Here are the contents. Four parts. I will have to remember this for my gift giving next year as I think it will be fun to do.

The letter was too nice. I’m glad to have inspired some more love for Absol! And the sketch is exquisite.

My first thought was that Absol’s horn looks like an ocarina so I made this.

Here is #1. The signed Shiny Milotic will be going into my E4 autograph binder immediately!

I love post cards and have never seen this one. It’s perfectly themed and even has an Absol!

Earlier this month I continued the $10 Redux Competition, which @shoops participated in, and they included their submission in the gift!

I almost missed this Korean Absol and actually didn’t find it until I read #2 in the letter! Holo pattern is beautiful and it will go into my Absol binder!

The best Umbreon and Espeon Alt Arts were also included. Yes, I said BEST!

That was just the first. Here is #2. Super cute Gen II Christmas themed plush.

The Chinchou is great with his little hat and bow. Delibird on the Swinub bring it to another level! Delibird will forever be the best Christmas Pokemon. Will have to move some things around on my shelf to fit these guys.

#3. A set of Book and Fumi cards! I am super into Non-TCG items like this.

The one with Dragonite is a Fumi card which I believe is a prepaid postage card, while the solo Pikachu is a book card!

Last but not least, #4. A PSA 10 1st Ed. Beat of the Frontier Absol G! I had to laugh a bit about this one while reading through it as I had just purchased one three weeks ago! Even so, this is perfect because I made two posts on the Recent Purchase thread about the two separate Absol G LV.X PSA 10 cards I bought! Now I have two of these to go with them. Honestly, I was very close to purchasing another just last week!

Thank you again @shoops for these incredibly thoughtful gifts! The effort you put in to this is insane. Absolutely the highlight of my Holidays!

Thank you to @bbobrob for the awesome and thoughtful secret santa gifts! For the record my guesses were: burmy, jigglypuff (from above), and Dragapult :joy:. I absolutely loved the drawings.

Merry Christmas!

I’m super relieved that you enjoyed everything! I tried to get a bit of everything you mentioned. I had a lot of fun getting everything together, and like I mentioned in the letter, I have a newfound appreciation for Absol!

Dang!!! I had a feeling you might have already grabbed one but wasn’t sure. I’m glad I completed a second set at least lol. I was excited to get you that card especially because Beat Frontier is one of my all-time favorites.

I can’t. I’m dead. This is HILARIOUS. I was hoping you’d see some humor in my horrifyingly bad drawing lmao.

This post made an already good day even better. Merry Xmas and I’m glad you enjoyed the gifts!

I have to add that the base set pikachu seems to be 1999-2000 variant which is always a fun niche

Yes I’m very grateful. I think it’s only my second or third of that print run.

My Secret Santa was @tcgmaine and I wanted to wait until Christmas to open it. Thank you so much Zach, I love all the gifts and your drawing is really good as well! I’d like to keep the note private.

In the first package I opened, there was an energy ornament which was so cool and a unique gift I really enjoyed!

The next package I opened contained a series of Vending Cards which were all drawn by different artists as well. I’ve only just started collecting Vending as well and I never even knew this Nidoran and Rattata arts existed so I was super thrilled so see them for the first time.

The Rattata is just stunning and I couldn’t help but get lost in the artwork.

In the next package, 3 politoeds, 2 Japanese exclusive artworks. A different artist for each artwork. All 3 are going to go into my Master Binder of Politoeds lol.

In the final package there was a Horsea Vending 3 in a PSA 9 to top it off.

There was so much in this package and I can really tell how much effort and thought you put into this @tcgmaine , thank you so much for making my first year part of the e4 secret santa so memorable and awesome!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and everyone at E4 as well

Thank you so much @sanae ! I love everything! The munchlax plushie is so soft :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:. I know my Santa letter was super long and kind of scatter brained but you totally nailed it. The art is amazing once I find a frame that fits it nicely I will put it on my work desk.

Everything is so amazing. I really appreciate the sealed movie commemorative promo set it’s absolutely perfect! Also, the pokepark munchlax :pinched_fingers: is just the icing on top.

I was thinking of putting the key chains on my keys but I’m scared it might get all dirty and damaged so I’m thinking of putting it on my binder zipper strap.

Last but not least, thank you for including a card that you enjoy it really means a lot to me. Thank you for the boxy gardevoir! Honestly I had no idea what boxy was until after looking up this card. I vaguely remember that one smpratte video mentioning that one sale from an overseas buyer or something but yeah. I was not in the hobby around this time so thank you again for introducing me to this beautiful set.

Merry Christmas!! Thank you again for the wonderful gift!

@PokMatt I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun putting things together! You like a lot of cool stuff, so it was hard to choose! Haha. The Rattata is one of my favorite vending cards, so I’m glad you liked it as well! Also, I will say Politoed has so many great cards and it made me love it that much more! Also I appreciate your support on the drawing - definitely not my strongest skill.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year!

I have put off opening my secret santa gift from @cardstockpile too long and it was killing me inside, especially since it got here before thanksgiving. Being a better person in the eyes of Santa than some of our cabal members, (Santa knows who you are), Ive anxiously waited until christmas to open what was sure to be amazing but even expecting that, it blew me away.

Brevity is not my strong suit so skim the photos if you dont want my thoughts on each portion.

7 packages… thats already amazing generosity regardless of what is in them. I didnt make it easy for my santa since my style of collecting is rather… unique. I basically asked for unique items around the tcgs history and that my favorite pokemon are the mareep family, cyndaquil family, and flareon. After shuffling them around I picked the fattest to open and decided to leave the larger package for last.

First package, a generous amount of assorted cards that Im going to assume countless hours of thought and research was put into choosing because they are all amazing. There are some carddass ones which i love the art of, some Top Seika cards which Ive always found interesting but hadnt delved into yet, some team aqua/magma japanese cards which ive started looking into recently because I really like that miniset, unique arts from the vending series, an amazing Mareep card from the chikorita/totodile half deck set, cyndaquil cards with amazing japanese promos and a really nice reverse holo L1 cyndaquil, beautiful Quilava cards, awesome Typhlosions, and some awesome Flareon cards with a reverse Kawayoo art flareon which is one of my favorites. Essentially every card was a banger and Im thrilled to have them in my collection!

Package two and four were these adorable charms for both Mareep family line and cyndaquil family line. Ive looked at ones similar to these for about 4 years so this was the best thing to be surprised with.
image2 (45)

Package three and five were japanese promo packs, a jet black spirit and silver lance packs. Im on the fence if I should open the promo packs because I like the uniqueness of their look. The other packs I didnt have much luck with but had fun opening.

Now package 6, last of the smaller packages, was really unexpected. I had mentioned offhand that I was looking for a trainer deck B card to display since I have the empty trainer deck boxes but the cards are usually too costly. Overall its been a big want but I always seem to be outbid. Well he sent me a psa8 trainer deck B water energy and I almost couldnt believe it. This whole past month I was going back and forth on whether I should bid on some or wait on the off chance that my santa sent me one and it was hiding in the gifts I had but I didnt think it would happen so I caved and am actually currently bidding on some auctions for a couple trainer deck B cards that I now can feel happy about losing on. Talk about nailing the wishlist.

Finally the last package, at this point I have no idea what to expect. Is it merch? A jumbo? Box topper? Turns out its better than any of those. He nailed the unique tcg history prompt with a Trainer Magazine Vol 1. As soon as I opened it I had to stop everything else that was going on and focus on flipping through it twice to soak it in and appreciate all the sketches and art that it has. Before anyone asks, no it doesnt have the snap card and would be absolutely beyond too much if it did, but I do love it as though it does because while the card is cool, for me it doesnt top the history that the magazine itself has.

Thank you for being an awesome Santa and for the amazing gifts. It was one of the most magical parts of my holiday. I have great appreciation for these gifts and will make sure they are enjoyed often.

Glad everything arrived safely! Burmy is actually a pretty good guess :joy:, and Jigglypuff (from above) is… a classic. Dragapult’s silhouette, though, is just too obvious to try and make ambiguous

Hope your Christmas and holidays are going well!

i was shocked at how soft this plush line is, i actually went back and ordered the larvitar for myself as well :purple_heart:

super happy you liked everything! boxy is a dangerous set to get into, good luck :people_hugging: also feel free to trim the fringes on the pika, i realized as i went to take it out of the sketchbook that the pages weren’t perforated and i don’t actually own scissors oops
