That autism story is super similar to something @smpratte told me the other day. You should relate stories and see if we have one person attempting to leverage an “autistic child” to try and get goodies for themselves.
I had a lady message me asking for free cards for her kid. I responded by saying I would happily throw in plenty of cards to an order, even a small purchase, but can’t simply give away free cards to anyone who inquires. Especially when one of the cards she wanted for free was a base set charizard. Her kid also had nothing wrong with him. It was an odd situation.
I have seen it several times over the past few years on various items from video games to pokemon cards to legos. Its usually along the lines of my autistic child would love these! How much (little) can you give them to me for? I probably have had someone ask for things for free as well but cannot recall specifically. I haven’t kept any record of the usernames, but they would likely be on my block list among the other 100 or so names there.
I read a funny post on some other forum, maybe the reddit ebay page wherein they deduced that eBay must cause autism in children as the autism birth rate is about 1% nationwide yet it seems about 50% of children whose parents use eBay have autism. Clearly a joke on the fact that so many people are clearly making it up doing whatever they can do to save money on cards. It isn’t that I think autism is a joke or something, it just really has nothing to do with what I am selling, and if I were to give a deal to everyone with some kind of sob story (legit or not), I would be losing quite a bit of money. It isn’t just autism, I have read about their childs chemo treatments, the car accident their sister was in, the fire that burned down their house etc. eBay users either have the highest autism/cancer/natural disaster/accidents rates of any group of people in the world, or just a lot of people in general will go to any length to save a buck.
Personally i sometimes don’t have the money to hand to win an auction that I wish to bid on however I will never bid on a card that I cannot immediately pay for unless I get the sellers permission to bid after asking them if they can wait.
Any questions or comments I receive that I don’t like gets replied to by the statement below,
“This auto reply service monitors all messages and communiqué to this ID. Appropriate and/or pertinent messages will be replied to forthwith. All other messages outside the allowed Terms Of Service will be forwarded to eBay for review. Thank you for your patience.”
You have inspired me to create my own “auto reply service”.
Still may need some fine tuning, but I think I’ll go with something along the lines of:
“This auto reply service monitors all messages and communiqué to this ID. It may take me a while to respond and I may never do so. My computer is currently broken as my autistic child dropped it out of the car window which caused me to wreck into the living room of my house thereby burning it down. We all got cancer from this tragic event as well, including my 8 newborn kittens. Please put us in your prayers and buy everything from my store at full asking price to help support us in this time of need. 5 star feedback is appreciated. Thank you and god bless.”
"Hi, I’m currently out of funds to pay for these items, could you please hold onto these for about a month while I earn some money to pay for these items, please do not make a request which gives me 7 days to have me pay for them because then I won’t be able to make the purchase
Thank you for understanding
Alex."
Note that this was on a $3.25 auction item. I’ll probably get a negative from this asshole too as these tends to be the ones who end up giving me negatives. I declined his request to hold for a month. I asked him to either pay or get an unpaid item strike. It was up to him. What the hell is wrong with people to bid on items they can’t afford? $3.25?! Come on people. Most likely scenario is he pays and opens a case when he gets it and gets his money back and leaves me a negative for a bogus claim.
On another $37.99 item that was buy it now.
"Hi, I need to cancel this order as I need to take my pet to the vet as I didn’t realize how much money I had to spend.
Thank you."
Poor animal. To be raised by such a moronic irresponsible human. I only hope they haven’t reproduced. How the hell can people decide to get pets when they don’t have $38 on hand? Or at least know to budget for veterinary expense. Worse yet how do they reproduce with so little money saved up.
From my experience, a decent majority of average people do not really budget out their money. Or even really keep up with it all that well. Or save it. They just spend until theyre broke. So neither of those really surprise me at all. But really, 3.25? Come on.
This plays right into my philosophy that the world is being divided into people who have no regard for their fellow man and idiots who give them good reason not to. A very depressing thought.
It’s the ‘life ignorant’ and entitled youth of this generation. They don’t take responsibility. Refunds, returns, non payers, negative threats etc. Mainly it’s because they’re too stupid to figure out more reasonable options.
SPEND TILL YOUR BROKE! YES THIS IS A GOOD IDEA, AS LONG AS ITS ON POKEMOON CARDS BECAUSE YOU KNOW YOUR INVESTING AS WELL AS HAVE HEAPS OF FUN… BUT DONT FORGETT TO BUY 2 OF EACH CARD peeps. so you can keep one copy fort yourself, and maybe get some dollans back later xD
