Does slight card warping affect PSA grading?

Hi everyone.

I’m greatly considering getting one of my more rare cards graded, but it does have some of that warping that happens to holos. Does this majorly impact the possible grade a card can get? Would it be worth trying to flatten it at all? Just want to be sure I’m not wasting my time sending it in if the warping hurts the value of it.

Thank you!

I’ve never noticed any affect on a grade due to that curve.

personally never had an issue with it. sent a decent amount with some having a pretty extreme curve and still came back the expected grade so i wouldn’t try to flatten if it was mine.

What causes the cards to warp? Moisture? I’ve never had a problem

Moisture and also the type of foil on the card, from my experience. I find reverse holo cards around the EX Deoxys era tend to be super warped.

Pretty much all older japanese holo cards I have sent to PSA have been at least slightly warped/curved. From my experience it doesn’t effect the grades at all.

Thanks all! Just the info I was looking for.

Funny you say that, I was also just noticing the other day how bad some of my reverse holos from the variation with the set stamp on the image have warping.

Yea some of the early EX Series sets had really bad warping on holo cards. I have heard stories where players who normally would get very harsh penalties for marked cards (In competitive play being able to tell your cards apart by something like warping is a big no-no) actually got fairly light penalties back in this era because some of these cards were almost entirely warped, no matter what and it was pretty rare for some cards to be not warped at all.

By the time PSA grades it after being in the cardsaver it will probably straighten out.
