Display Case for Collection

I am currently searching for inspiration for how collectors put up their Pokemon collection on display. I have Pokemon art, slabs, and other center pieces I’d like to add inside and curious to see how e4 proudly reps their PC.

Inspiration:

I will be adding light and having a lock on it.

I have stuff everywhere. Most of this stuff will go into storage. The prized stuff goes on display.

I know for me it depends on what I like to see. With enclosed shelving I had to consider lighting, glare, sizing, framing supports, viewing angles, and how it all comes together with the cabinet.

I use an old display cabinet that I hope to add lights onto at some point for some statues, but when looking I made sure it had glass shelving so light could pass between layers easily. Shelf movement was minimal but was where I needed it to be. Glass design was unique which I like but I had to consider which statues where going to be seen and which ones went together (either color wise or based on poses). Currently I have a lot or wasted space in it but I like that look as opposed to the cluttered look without anything to focus on.

Alternatively, I also made my own simple shelves and installed them for my deck collection to all be a specific height, specific depth, and exact lengths to get the maximum from the space since I wanted to display those as maximally as I could.

Heres a quick photo, as I said I still need to install some lights when I find a nice way of highlighting each shelf. Please forgive the light glare, its not as bad when you are looking head on.

This is really clean. Once some lights get installed :pinched_fingers:t2: perfect.

Thanks! I hadnt shown it before but thought that it seemed like a good example for the considerations on shelving. Quite a bit nontraditional compared to most display cabinet looks.

Do you have an IKEA nearby (or one who is delivering)
I will search an example for you, but they the option to build a whole wall full with display cases.
I do have to clean them up, but you will have an idea.

I took the 3 space high 1 space wide ones and no glass in the bottom doors. But you can choose whatever you like.
Mine are the “deeper” ones, you also have half this size.

The line is called Besta. The body comes in 4 print/colors. The doors have many options.
I found them on Ikea USA so you have them overseas.

I wished they had that dark grey (new one) earlier, I like that way more than the black.

Ikea has some really good shelving for collection displays. Also it is very customizable for a reasonable cost as far as new shelving units go.

Thanks so much! We have an Ikea next door to us that we went to go see. We saw options, there was a million people there so we’re going to go during the week so we can walk and take our time.

I use the discontinued IKEA Detolf for a majority of my smaller statues. I know ikea recently replaced it with something else. I also have a display case from a local furniture store. It’s really nice quality so I store my Disney collection in it.

Be careful when it comes to lighting. Specific lights can cause a ton of heat and destroy things you’re trying to display.

Evening view with doors open and lights on.
My shelf are the glass ones, so the light shines through, but I might add another set of lights on the lower level.

Man look at those trophies!

I look at them every day, but some of them are mine, some of my sons.
Nothing is bought, all earned ourselves.

I was looking for a solution when I last moved, and decided to stop spending time looking and design and build something myself. This total project cost me about 200$ USD at the time, in material and man hours. I made design plans so I might have a better quality version made in the future, BUT it’s a pretty darn good job as is.

You’ve probably thought about some of these already, but these are the design points I considered:

  • Modularity (They are stackable; 2 more not pictured)
  • Simplicity (Magnets and fitted flange, not hinges)
  • Minimal air gaps to limit dust (fitted flange)
  • Internal lighting options (started with top-lit, but front is bettah) :sunglasses:
  • Front access for easy change-out and minimal space
  • Plexiglass for lighter weight (shelves must be 1/4 inch or better to bear the weight)
  • Weight bearing (each cube will hold 250 lbs if people want to sit on 'em)
  • Adjustable shelving and arrangement inside (This is where I’ve spent additional money over time)
