Looks like they’re trying to take influence from Flesh and Blood with their use of “cold foils.” Similar to Neo Destiny’s shining cards.

Allegedly a former game designer working for Upper Deck was working on an UD tcg and then left to work for Ravensburger (who makes Lorcana). UD claims Lorcana is more or less a copy of the game that the employee was working on.

Interesting indeed. first take: Time will tell, but if they can show game mechanics are super close, they might have something. However, It’s not easy. They better have tons of documentation. Ultimately, parties will settle. Disney is too deep in this one, and they’re too big. Heck, Disney is so big they might own florida soon! (Just kidding. Still, tragic florida. Always being sold to the higher power - interesting history there…).
Second take: ‘novel’ and ‘new’ mean the same thing.
“…invested significant time and resources to develop a new and novel trading card game.”
makes the copywriters look hasty. Perhaps Upper Deck is grasping at straws a bit.
I’m sure Disney will fight it the entire way. The mouse has no limits!

I wonder if Disney really has much fighting to do in this though. Isn’t this more of UD vs Ravensburger? If it all goes downhill I wonder if Disney would just sue Ravensburger too. I’m sure they could come up with a reason if they felt like they were somehow losing money in all of this.

I’m too broke to get into another TCG. But if there’s a white & black holo Mickey Mouse or a nice holo Scar (Lion King) or holo Aladdin/Jafar, I might give in to one of those as a 1 off, in this case, a 3/4 off.
Mason requested 200 booster boxes and is getting only 6. It could be that Ravensburger is prioritizing big box retail, meaning fewer booster boxes are being produced vs other product types. Could also mean that they are having trouble producing enough product in time for the August/September release.
Still no news on rarity types, foil, chase cards, gameplay, etc.

You and I both happen to have the same interests here. I really like a lot of these TCG’s and I am interested to see where this set goes. I really liked Disney 100 Years of Wonder and that set did well. I bought a case of Disney Lorcana a while back because I am looking forward to a lot of the artwork and OG Disney characters.

There is now a Lorcana companion app that has images of all the set cards, including foil versions. It also has a collecting feature to track what you have, a deck builder, and some other features.
Still no word on secret rares/chase cards in general

I’m getting much more excited about Lorcana. I don’t think I’ll be a grading fiend or will take it too seriously, but having a binder collection of each set would be awesome.
