Disney Lorcana - Disney Trading Card Game coming 2023

Considering the prices of things at disneyland, 100 bucks for a booster box will look cheap compared to much of the merch around it.

I assume they will change the box seals quickly. Videos online show how easy it is to slip out packs and fill with garbage from the side without breaking the pull tab or damaging the box. I’m not sure what they were thinking. You could literally slip out packs, fill it with junk and return to a store closed and they’d be none the wiser.

Huge opportunity for anyone that can get to Miami next month, they have 12 Lorcana artists all signing cards at the same convention. Wish I could be there :disappointed:

From what I’ve seen so far there’s no restrictions/personalisation required for Lorcana signings.

I went to go buy some packs but all the Walmarts and targets I went to didn’t have anything

Next expansion, Rise of the Floodborn!

Featuring a bunch more “Floodborn” cards that show iconic Disney characters in different styles or appearances, this set will release at local game stores worldwide on November 17th.

As well as releasing into mass retail/online stores on December 1st, there will also be a special Disney100 Collectors Edition featuring alternate artwork cards drawn by Disney animators from Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Actually pumped cards to see more of the Floodborn if Belle and Gaston are anything to go by!

That Belle’s ability is crazy! And the Winnie the Pooh Honey Wizard is probably the first art I’m genuinely excited about, haha.

To be completely honest, pokemon was the only TCG i was interested in for many years, but seems like lorcana has been driving me crazy lately. Time to start a new collection i guess…

Well they had this expansion planned way ahead of course but it would be ideal that they first nail the sealed stuff being so low quality, extremely limited amount of supply, distribution, etc before even focusing on a new expansion.

I totally agree with both. I can see that Belle being one of the most expensive cards in that set. I wonder if it would be worth putting together a reckless deck with her in it or something. Also that Winnie art is S tier imo. Glad it’s only a common so it’s easy to pull or buy.

Edit: Also the evil queen card is also super powerful with a chosen -4 attack and +4 attack from just questing. I am so excited to build some new decks!

I know nothing about Lorcana gameplay, but that Belle effect makes me think Lorcana is going to turn into Rocket/Gym era Pokemon, with really not fun hand destruction being the meta.

Looks like that reprint is coming sooner than we thought. November seems to be the target, with the 2nd set releasing sometime this holiday season (November). I have looked for packs and product in stores, but have had no luck finding anything…but I am also prioritizing 151 so…

The man site has had some updates here and there. The Resources section seems new and has several “Coming Soon” sections.

Is it just me or do most of the cards look like they are drawn by the same people? (I know they aren’t) It’s all so very bland.

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but the art has seemed rather lacking in comparison to Pokemon. It all blends together and could just be any random deviantart (does that still exist?) fanartist.

Link for card art

Historically, Disney are very strict with how their IPs are drawn and presented. Pokemon artists have parameters and rules to follow as well, but it seems the Disney artists have a much tighter and stricter ruleset to follow.

Actually so cool that Ravensburger are freely allowing artists to sign cards at the moment. Makes a nice change from the current closed door scenarios in Pokémon. Gonna send my Brave Little Tailor to be signed!

Absolutely blown away by the autos! The little crown on Simba is perfect!

Its cool that they use 2 sharpies to give it a really standout detailed look.

I asked the owner of one of my LGS’ today (in the northeast US) about Lorcana and thought I’d share. Here’s what he told me:

  • Majority of sales and players are adults. When they see kids, it’s usually a Disney adult parent trying to get them interested.
  • Classic character collecting dominating interest. Doesn’t see the same interest in the current Disney characters especially among kids.
  • Distribution has been frustrating. They said they either have too much product and or not enough.
  • They feel Ravensburger has bit off more than they can chew and said they made a poor first impression managing things.
  • They’re seeing most interest in collecting side, not so much playing the game. They are holding playing nights though and say it’s mostly adults. They say the two camps are oddly separated and that the way the game was created makes it difficult to be both a collector and player.

It’s interesting that most of the discussion and speculation I’ve seen on Lorcana happens BEFORE it was available. Now it just seems to be in the background. I don’t know anyone seriously collecting, playing or talking about it. Not to say it’s a flop or anything, just didn’t live up to what seemed like astronomical expectations earlier in this thread. It just demonstrates how insanely difficult it is to make a really good tcg
