Disney Lorcana - Disney Trading Card Game coming 2023

I agree that the artwork is pretty good. Disney Lorcana Cards Database | Lorcania

I just don’t appreciate how Ravensburger is running everything so far, and so I will not collect/play with the product until I see things change. Having no seal on the box is the most alarming thing for me. If they begin to release sets with a seal, I would be more interested. I don’t mind it being printed to the ground if they truly want to create a playable game with limited collectability/stonkability.

Yeah that’s strange. I wonder why they did that

Because they’ve never made a card game and are still learning. :person_shrugging:

This is true lol

The developers have stated a lot of their decisions, when it comes to packaging, is due to limiting waste as much as possible. It’s why they used the pull tab instead of plastic wrap, I would rather have the plastic wrap. We have seen multiple videos of people being able to access the packs without opening the pull tab and I can not see how this was not noticed during development.

My wife is not a big TCG or collector but as we are bigger Disney people, along with my brother, we all purchased a starter deck to try out the game. We all enjoyed the game, whether it was 1v1 or one game where we played with 4 people. The hard part for Ravensburger in all this will be converted the Non-TCG Disney audience, like my wife and brother, into players. Even though, my wife and brother really enjoyed the game, they still have no interest in creating their own decks or collecting the cards.

I have always been a collector first and will probably get some of the enchanted rares and foil legendaries after the mass release as I expect things to come down a bunch. If the game succeeds than great, if not, I have some cool cards for my collection. I did the same with other tcgs that I like in DBS and MHA.

Set 2 is has been announced for a November/December release where the big box stores get product 2 weeks late again. As this set was probably already in motion prior to the release of set 1. I don’t expect some of the things people have brought up here to be used in this set but I’m hopeful set 3 will see some of your guys suggestions.

The plastic seal is unnecessary anyway like it is on most things.

Alright, don’t use plastic wrap but at least they should have implemented something clever with the packaging or use a special pattern sticker, etc.

Shipping boxes like that seems so unprofessional and it’s just a major fuck up from their part. Worst part is the reasoning behind or the ones i’ve read : " limiting waste" , “benefiting the players”, “discouraging the scalpers to keep them sealed” (?).

The plastic wrap instills confidence in the consumer that the product is not tampered with. Ravensburger needs to come up with some way to improve the seal such that the consumer knows it is factory sealed and packs have not been shuffled in/out.

@fresco mentioned a good way, like a special patterned sticker that would indicate if the box had been opened. This is what Metazoo uses and people love it.

No plastic wrap, sticker, etc. would make me a little bit nervous about having a box for holding long term.

I really do like the fact that Ravensburger is limiting waste by sticking to cardboard and paper inserts, as well as reusing the packaging as damage counters and lore trackers.

With pokemon product, as a tin and ETB opener, the cleanup bothers me when I’m accumulating a growing pile of dice, condition markers, or an awkward shaped tin that I’ll never use. I usually recycle the tin, it could just be more useful if it was designed to properly hold cards after the initial opening. The dice and markers I could chuck or donate but at the end of the day it’s just more stuff that now exists.

However, it doesn’t make sense that Ravensburger doesn’t wrap their booster boxes with plastic considering they wrap many of their puzzles in plastic. Just yesterday I saw a 30k+ piece puzzle wrapped in like two garbage bags worth of plastic wrap, and I think it is important to consumers to know their product hasn’t been tampered with, so idk.

I personally dislike/disagree with the trend of wrapping everything in plastic and also keeping stuff sealed so if they can find a way to create a better box, then that would be good.

Longevity comes from more people experiencing the product not hoarding it.

My favorite card from the set

not going to lie, but what a useless post from the lorcana team. how is selling lorcana inside disneyland and disneyworld any good for 99% of people trying to play/buy the game? the gatekeeping is getting a bit silly at this point.

I think they’re selling in Walmart and target too

booster boxes most likely wont be available at any big retailer though. but yes, starter decks, loose sleeved packs, gift set, and illumiuneer’s trove will be available at big box retailers. probably only bestbuy and maybe amazon will have booster boxes available outside of LGS though. i still imagine the produt will get cleaned out within hours or day latest of it hitting the shelves.

I think they said it will be mass produced but who knows.

Their target audience is children, and children at Disneyland tend to have parents with money to spend on merchandise. I’d argue this is actually very helpful for getting the people they want to actually play the game to play it.
