Discussion: Price Trend of 1st ED German Charizards

For both Raw and Graded.
I’ve seen the prices climb from ~100-150€ Raw NM-M to (now) even reaching close to 400€ raw. Graded cards have also gone up in price like crazy. Any idea why this is suddenly happening for German Zards? And what’s your guess on whether or not it’ll keep climbing or decline again. Will it affect other Base Cards, or even German Sets, or will it be confined to the Zard. What’s your opinion?

Bump

I’ve noticed a strong interest in all the German Base 1st edition cards. Of course Charizard will lead lead the race. With the rapid growth of collectors, it was only a matter of time that people would go from getting all the English cards to the next most popular language which seems to be German. There’s also a lot of interest in other European languages; like French and Spanish.

Low supply given the market demand → price goes up.

Base 1st foreign mainly zard and sealed product has done extremely well and in general has matched or outpaced english base 1st over the past couple years. The only major exception being PSA 10 base 1st charizard. Even general PSA 9’s and PSA 10’s though have gone up a lot too. Foreign PSA 9’s use to barely sell and when they did they were crazy cheap for what they were.

Germany has both a strong fanbase as well as enough money to spend. In western Europe German is also the language spoken by the most people, so naturally the demand is going to be higher.
Sometimes I’m stunned by the prices some German cards sell for, but generally speaking they only hold a real value in 1st Ed WOTC holos at the moment.
And the 1st Ed Zard is in its own special league of course.
Honestly I wouldn’t be too surprised if a PSA 10 1st Ed Glurak is going to sell for 4000-5000$ in a few years. But that’s really only for the Glurak.

I said this already in an other post, there are roughly 100 mio native german speakers and their countries are all pretty wealthy, so they have more income to spend on this stuff. I also believe that people see those english PSA10 1st Charizard hitting new highs, so they might want to buy the german one while they can. For me it sucks because that PSA10 Glurak was selling for 1600 USD 4 months ago, now it might hit double the price.
A Blastoise PSA10 also was sold for 2400 USD recently. 1st Edition Base Set boxes went up 300-400% in the last year.
