Cross grading Question: 1st Ed Charizard Bgs9++!

I have had this very similar problem as I have noted before, and I couldn’t agree more with you. My attempt to grade an UNL Zard from a BGS 9 to a PSA 10 (with subgrades 10, 9.5, 9.5, 8.5) fell flat on its Zard face. I can’t help but think, though, that sending a card, already in a BGS case, had something to do with it. If I were a grader, but let it be noted I am definitely not, I would feel a little slighted having to re-evaluate my biggest competitor’s work, feeling the need to ‘match’ their evaluation, almost like a stamp of approval. And even if I did give it this stamp, I would feel like I would be undermining my own work/company by ‘ok’ing’ or ‘matching’ my competitor’s evaluation (by evaluation, I mean grade). In other words, I concur that it’s an ego battle. And you can’t blame either company.

Just for fun figure that if PSA accepts it, they crack a competitors case on a high end card and put it in their case. You’d think there’d be a benefit there?

Dang…I missed the last page of this thread. I would have traded a FLAWLESS PSA 9 for this. Only the centering was a bit off but within the 10 parameters.

If you have a flawless 9 with only the centering being slightly off but still within 10 parameters, wouldn’t that be worth a shot at regrading as it sounds like it could / should have got a 10?

If you crossed to BGS would it not be possible for the same card to get 10, 10, 10 and 9.5 on centering achieving an overall BGS10?

That same scenario happened recently with a shadowless zard psa 9. It crossed to a bgs 10

Ye I can see that being possible- BGS should assess each sub-grade on its own merits.

If NZG has a card that could cross to BGS 10 or 9.5 at worst (based on his description of the card), his offer to trade for a BGS 9 seems like a poor trade for him but a great trade for Argentina.

Good point. I just feel like from the grader’s perspective, the decision could ultimately be more ego-driven.
