Covid-19/Corona Virus Megathread (Info/Discussion)

@dizzle24, thanks I appreciate that. I’m kinda more worried about other people than myself which of course I have even less control over. My dad is almost finishing up cancer treatment and it may become unsafe for him to commute to his hospital from Brooklyn to Manhattan or they may only have time for critical virus treatment.

@qwachansey oh wow, im really, really sorry to hear your going through that. But I can imagine thats a tough one as well. Id say in this situation, just try and help as best as possible and do what can be done during all of this. While that commute may be unsafe, maybe theres other options along the way or something which can be done to help and even if not, id try to remain as positive as one could be in such a time and just do your best, because by doing that youve done all that you can and hopefully in that case things start to get better. But again, im around if you need to chat privately (or when im not working/schooling)!

That would be super awesome

Considering my age (66) and respiratory problems (mild emphysema and asthma) you’d think I’d have the most reason to be anxious. Well…I’m not at all. My kids are making my families life secluded very comfortable. They are taking care of all our outside chores, shipping and shopping etc. It helps to have family:)

True  While I wish we were not in the area we are (just announced we hit 4,000 cases) I am glad we are close-ish together

Appreciate it  I’m going to risk it and try to make it home in the morning. I don’t know if they’re shutting down highways yet but I think if they did they’d start this weekend.
I miss my bed & my gold fish lol

I live in PA and they just shut down all non life sustaining businesses indefinitely, this is going to be interesting.

Fucking crazy time to be alive!

I might have lost both my jobs for the short term haha. I actually got back into collecting recently and started investing in the stock market. What a time to get back into collecting. Luckily I have an emergency fund and congress will keep GI bill payments the same rate and not cut to 1/2 because my classes are online. I’m glad that veterans are one of the few bipartisan things that can get passed.

I’m sure in the long term I’ll be fine. However, I’m concerned for how the pumping of money into the economy will affect various markets such as hospitality, food, service and other industries. What are all your opinions on the fall out in 3, 6 and 12 and 24 months following this?

Also what do effect do you all think this will have on the hobby?

@qwachansey
I’m surprisingly chill with this whole situation ( even the finance crisis in 2008 felt much worse and I was doing military service at that time ).
Oddly enough my regular lifestyle fits perfectly in fight against the corona, I don’t spend too much time when I’m going to bank, grocery stores etc. Even when all public places are now shut down the countryside offers endless possibilities for walking/running and on top of that I can visit nearby lake for ice swimming.
Following weeks during emergency law could be a bit boring here but it’s all about buying time for those who actually need help right now.

@nauticads I like that mindset. Just isolate yourself, do your thing, don’t spend too much time in one place, and make sure you’re healthy so that others that need patient care more than you will have available space in hospitals

Hmmm, feel kind of weird seeing tourists area in Boston empty for first time.

I’m not scared of the virus at all and I also don’t really leave the house for other than necessary things anyway so that doesn’t get into me BUT I’m really starting to get anxiety about the uncertainity of the future. Like literally none of my worries have anything to do with the actual virus itself…

Imagine having borders closed and having your loved one 9000 km away from you and the only month you are able to travel being July and you have no idea if you can see each other this year. And if I could book flights for July how expensive will it be?? I have money saved for it but don’t know if I can even afford it anymore…

EXACTLY THIS! I’m supposed to visit my loved one in June, but with all recent developments I’m getting scared I can’t go anymore…
