I work as an SLP for a large school district in California. We were told today that we should prepare to be off until August. I also work at a children’s hospital. This morning we were provided a plan of action of Covid-19 were to severely affect are area. All nonessential services such as speech therapy would be eliminated and resources would go into helping the main hospital support the care of covid-19 patients. My children’s hospital job supports my sports cards and pokemon hobby. I am not buying cards at this time. My extra money will be going to help feed others/immediate family members in my area. I have had multiple friends and family laid off this past week here in California.
Side Note: Thanks for buying that grey stamp from me. That fed my sister’s family for the next two weeks.
The “social distancing” aspect has changed my day to day life. My grandma who refuses to leave the farm needs a lot of care and I normally eat lunch with her daily but now my uncle who lives with her is pretty much taking care of her by himself instead of all of my family pitching in.
Ag commodity prices are going down lower when we have already had a tough year with the China trade war. My family farm raises tens of thousands of pigs yearly which feeds millions of people and we could be forced to close doors if prices continue to drop since we are already operating at a loss.
thanks yeah I saw, I’m gonna just get my cards back. This thing could go on for a while and It sort of defeats the purpose of buying faster turnaround timed services
For me personally not much. Normally I would work three days at the office and two days at home, and now it’s five days at home. (I work as a software developer btw, thus as long as I have my laptop and internet I can work. )
Main difference is that the rest of the family aren’t working and are at home as well right now. My dad’s a teacher, and the schools are closed in the entire country since Monday; my mom takes blood samples at general practice centers, which are now also all closed; and my little brother was supposed to start at a new secondment location this week, but since they all work from home, there is no one to marshal him this first week. So he had no other choice than to go back to the main company (where they have too many employees for the current work, so he has nothing to do right now). I think he has to do some self-schooling for certificates next week, but this week (or at least today) he’s mostly been gaming and watching anime…
Here in Columbia, MO. We had our first case reported yesterday, and that case was reported to have died today… Havn’t seen this happen else where but in the Midwest testing could be a little more urgent to say the least. At my Hospital a drive through test station was started today and everyone is now taking this seriously. About time. We are expecting it to really take off here in the next 2 weeks. Our peak may be mid April-May.
I planned to get an order out on Thurs/Fri this week. The uncertainty and quick reversal of the decision does not add any confidence. I’ll probably hold off 1-2 weeks before sending anything directly to PSA.
@gemmintpokemon definitely the move. Unfortunately my 338 card bulk order got delivered/received 2 days ago :’) . Gonna let the PSA gods do what they do
