On the website it says it sold for $100,655 which includes the buyer’s premium
Yeah, it sold for $82,000 + 22.75% premium. Ouch… I don’t know how much they charge sellers but I guess whoever sold this netted less than $75k for the set. That’s really awful.
Didn’t the last one sell for like $34k or something? I swear every time I decide to checkup on 1st Ed Base Set I’m constantly in shock.
It’s pretty incredible how things have changed since these rich investors took interest.
I think the first six-figure sale was several months ago now. I think a $34k set is a concept at least three-four years old.
Thanks for the correction, I’m blind evidently. So I wonder what caused this person to sell through this site then instead of eBay? There’s little doubt if would have broken $100k on eBay and the seller would have only lost $750 from ebay and 3% from PayPal right?
You’re right lol, cause charizard alone has been at $20k for a bit. I was probably looking back at a previous auction that I didn’t follow up fully so my bad.
However I wouldn’t say it was $34k was 3-4 years ago. After all, in 2016 Charizard was only about $10k or less with only Venusaur and Blastoise reaching above $1,000 and complete non holo sets were a couple $1,000. Adding the cost of putting the set together, $34k was definitely pretty reasonable a year ago, maybe even less than that.
I think the 1999 1st Edition Base set is newer than that websites software.
I really don’t follow pricing for the PSA 10 1st Ed. Base Set - those cards are already out of my price-range, so I pay very little attention! Haha
However, that auction was a real disappointment. Obviously, the final sale-price of $82,000.00 was MUCH LOWER than expected - considering what is / has been available on eBay as well as the last public auction of the PSA 10 Set. I’m sure we’ll start getting a few of those people saying that the market is starting to decline; but, I really feel it was 100% that auction-house and 100% not a reflection of the current market - that auction was a complete flop!
What would possess someone to consign something of that value with that specific auction-house??? Talk about a no-name, low-budget venue! LOL
If it weren’t for this forum post, this auction would have flew over my head, I would have found a cure for world hunger before I would have discovered that auction service they used.
