I sold my tmnt 3rd print at the end of last year since it didn’t move price in forever and I hate the magazine size holders…whoops. the copper stuff is going wild like spiderman
It sure is, not sure why, but it’s on fire. I just sold my TMNT # 4 1st print CGC 9.4 for like $250. I agree, the holder was a lot larger than I wanted so that’s one reason why I sold it.
It’s pretty comical that I was willing to pay $5000 for a 1st ed 9 zard when I just started collecting Pokémon but held back on buying a 9.8 for a fraction of that price for one of my favorite spidey comics around the same time. I thought I’d be content with my iron spider arts but seeing the 300 again has got me tempted lol
I’m not much of a comics guy, but as a techie I fell in love with Warren Ellis’ Transmetropolitan and it’s cyberpunk transhumanism themes. I like reading them for the artwork or just to look at the late 90s advertisements. Here’s my 1-60 single issue collection:
@admiral, I’ve noticed this same issue with PWCC Vault even with Pokemon. Listings just don’t show up in the right eBay categories. Very frustrating they can’t get it right.
I’ve never been a comic book collector until watching Invincible on Amazon Prime a few weeks ago. Thought the show was really well done and it got me interested enough to buy Invincible #1 and #2 in 9.8. Don’t see myself buying many other comics from the series though. I am now getting the itch to get some Marvel comics but having some sticker shock even after experiencing Pokemon over the past year. Cool to learn about what people value and see how much people pay for even very low grade items. Thinking over some different Iron Man or Spiderman issues to get.
Silver age marvel keys basically did what Pokemon did in the same time frame lol. 10x on some things. Lots of hype. From someone who has been collecting for a while I’d say it’s probably a good time to watch and see if we stabilize…unless you get good raw deals
Hi guys, I was looking at Star Wars #2 comic from 1977 and looking through the cgc data. For this book it has only been graded 1658 times with cgc compared to 9960 for star wars #1, is there a reason why there are 6x less of these graded? I think the print run for 1977 is unknown but for 1979 I found an article that says for each issue the average amount of copies sold was 278,000. Considering #2 has 1st appearances of some of the most well known characters (Obi Wan, Han Solo, Chewbacca), I thought the prices seemed somewhat low for these, especially if there aren’t a lot of them out there (or maybe 1658 is a lot in line with that print run, I’m unsure). I might be missing something major here as I really don’t have much of an insight into the comic hobby so help from someone who has more knowledge in this area would be much appreciated.
It’s just not a particularly hard book to find nor is it hard to grade (40% of the graded are 9.6 and 9.8) but I agree that it’s likely overlooked given you get the first appearance of Jabba, Han and Chewie. Although Han is on the cover of #1 just not in the panels. If you are looking for rarity, look out for the 35 cent variant.
As for why #1 is more coveted, well… it’s #1 lol First appearance of everyone of note, Darth, Luke, Leia, Obi Wan, the droids and an iconic cover to boot
Thanks for the reply, that makes sense. You mention that 40% are 9.6 and 9.8, what sort of % would you look at and say, “this seems difficult to get a high grade”
Hey so I actually misinterpreted the data, and it’s actually only 30% in 9.6 and 9.8. completely my fault sorry about that. For a bronze age book that’s pretty average.
If you want to see a couple of examples of bronze age keys that are really hard to grade…look at Amazing Spider-Man 101 (first app of Morbius), which has 3% in 9.6 and 9.8 and amazing Spider-Man 129 (first punisher) which is under 5% in high grade.
