Cards you admire from afar

The only Greninja card I am missing…and will never get…not to mention the Art Academy Pikachu (Ashley) that has a cameo I will also never get. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Pretty much all vintage trophies/higher-end promos (illustrator, snap promos, 97 trophies, etc.) fall into this category for me. Absolutely stunning cards with fascinating histories, but way out of my budget  . Alt arts also fall into this category; I could probably buy some, but almost all of my current collection goals are for pre-DPPT things and unfortunately I just can’t afford to do both. I guess “there are an overwhelming amount of amazing cards” is a good problem to have, though.

For me it’s Japanese cards. Alot of them like the scream promos, ponchos, and stamp promos looks super cool, but if I break my rule and start buying Japanese I’ll fall down the rabbit hole. Also this Charizard looks amazing but don’t want to open that can of worms

Get them while they are still affordable now before 5th Apr!

What’s happening on the 5th April?

I think that’s the rotation date for the TCG this year

Are you an oracle or something, what happens on the 5th of April in the calendar year of 2024?

buffet is implying that the only special arts that matter were printed before the 3rd year of swsh since the rotation is happening in april. as we know, no cards before year 2 of swsh have come down in price since april 2023

Since when has rotation made cards more expensive?

these two
When they came out I still tried to get them
As a collector of everything related to imakuni, the trigger here was great
I really can only look at them in admiration.

It should be the opposite surely. In a different thread it was explained that the Kanda Giratina alt is partly so expensive BECAUSE its being used. It can’t work both ways lol.

I think the desirable alts are gonna climb no matter if they are being used or not. The only question is whether or not SWSH alts will suddenly explode overnight like the Sun/Moon equivalents did once they were a gen or so back. I hope not because that was ridiculous and put certain cards (Latios/Latias and the Wailord/Magikarp for example) out of sensible reach.

The amount of SW/SH product available eclipses Sun & Moon by many fold. Sun & Moon alt arts increased because there were rumors that alt arts would not be incorporated into Scarlet & Violet, so many modern collectors tried to finish their complete sets before the new generation came out. Turns out that all of those rumors were lies, yet the prices of some of those Sun & Moon chase cards have stayed pretty high.

I don’t think there will be a world in which April comes around and SW/SH alt arts boost to the moon. The number of copies for sale is massive and the sealed product is plentiful too.

My grail :smiling_face_with_tear:

Rotation = Out-of-print = No more ES reprints

EVS has been OoP for a while. being out of rotation does not mean there will be no more EVS on shelves. think of how much Cosmic Eclipse people have found in products over the last couple of years despite it being out of rotation. PC dropped a ton of SM era BBs a few weeks ago. rotation means nothing to inventory.

Till now any ES stocks on the retail shelves will be gone faster than you can even drive to the store.

Fine, we’ll see then.
