Great post. I did wonder about the print ratios of SM vs SWSH but I wasn’t collecting modern as much for most of the SM era so had no experience to base it on.
However the fact that those prices didn’t crash back down, even after the “reason” for their spike was proven false, says to me that anything can happen regardless of whether there is reason or not, especially when such dramatic market swings occur based on theories and speculation.
I mean unless a person works for the Pokemon Company and can give categorical evidence that something is 100% never getting another print, then I can only take their information as a theory based (at best) on historical trends.
We’ll see! Hopefully the good stuff just experiences steady appreciation over time like it used to, and not sudden to the moon nonsense sparked by investors and market manipulators…

How much Brilliant Stars do you see on shelves? What about Astral Radiance? Arceus VSTAR, Palkia VSTAR, Radiant Greninja Ultra Ball, Manaphy, Irida… These are all hugely important cards in the TCG. They will be in standard for the next year. Why isn’t Pokemon printing these currently?
Evolving Skies on the other hand is one of the worst sets of year 2 for players. There are only a handful of niche cards in the set (Dragonite V which hardly anyone uses anymore, Medicham V for RS Box decks, G-Moltres V for Roaring Moon decks, Raihan which is also a fairly niche inclusion). Compare that to the other three main sets which each have hugely critical staples for many decks… If anything, we should be seeing Battle Styles and Fusion Strike all over shelves… But it doesn’t work that way. Never has… Japan in particular nearly never receives reprints for their main sets except for very few exceptions like Eevee Heroes which was the most reprinted modern set outside of the High Class sets. Blue Sky Stream (the rayquaza set) only had one print run for example. Most do.

This is my most favorite card from the entire tcg. I’m hoping to own it one day. It will have to be some lower condition copy for sure, but I believe it is possible. Depends on how the price will evolve in the next 2-4 years, since it is absolutely not within my reach at this moment because of some life-altering events happening recently, but the price is out of my control so I don’t worry about that. I’m focusing on stuff that I can change and control and it will be interesting to see whether my actions will lead to me owning the card, or not 
Big inspiration for me are collectors like @qwachansey, because I’ve seen that perseverance can lead you to cards you would never believe you could own and that sometimes things take time. I already own cards that I never imagined I would own 4-5 years ago, so who knows

Are you considering “holy grail” to just mean chase card of the era? Because I don’t think many people would argue with you there.
It’s just that to me,and probably a lot of people here “holy grail” would put it with the likes of the legitimate tcg defining cards like gs Rayquaza and Charizard base, cards that I think you also called “holy grails”
So if it just means chase from its respective era then we can probably avoid all the memes and arguments because I’d pretty much agree moonbreon is the era defining card for swsh even if I personally like other alts better

im not rich but would like to have some big cards as part of my collection at least.
im currently getting my fan club eevee psa 8 and fan club porygon psa 9.
i would be happy with the championship 21-22 trophy for the competition in bkk since its fitting as i live in thailand and i think the art is nice :

after i have these 5 i could reach a point where id say “ok i got the trophies that i like that are now still out of my reach but will be in the future” since i will never have money for no.3 pikachu or kangaskhan and such but i still think it will be a nice collection. all other “normal cards” i can always get at psa 8-9 even if 1st edition (except base charizard 1st ed in which i can be satisfied in a psa 6-7).

Interesting thread … In my case there’re some cards I don’t own, but are very interesting for me.
TMB 2001-2002 Deck cards are cards with extremely interesting story behind it, but they’re extremely expensive and extremely rare to find.
Same applies to NYC2002, Sample e-Cards I’d like to chase. Not now because, as a student, I don’t have enough funds to be able to pay for one. Probably in the future.
… And Creatures Deck cards are also very interesting, but very expensive
Unnumbered Promotional cards I’ve always liked a lot (I think my nearest goal related to that is the Masaki Omastar because it’s the cheapest and it has a really cool artwork)
and, to finish this, I’d like to mention the Pokespe Phone cards.
